The problem seems like an update is corrupt.Go into system restore and restore the computer to a time when it was working. You could go into control panel and delete your updates.

I have had problems with ASUS boards in the past, but I stick with them. As you have seen from the above suggestions it could be a myriad of things. Go into bios and into the boot sequence be sure it is booting to the harddrive where the OS is first then the cd/dvd player if you have one. It sounds like its looking for Windows 10. If that is ok and after you get it to boot up Go to explorer lower left corner type in powershell and right click it and select "run as administrator" when that box comes up type in sfc (space) /scannow. This windows program will run a check and fix your hard drive. Than reboot and give it a try. You can also type in Windows explorer "defrag" and one of the choices is "defrag optimize" select that and have it optimize and defrag the hard drive. Sometimes it will run as many as 20 passes, you will see what I mean, but let it complete. Lastly because everyone else has made a lot of great suggestions you may need a new HD. The Old chkdsk is still available and I just used it to fix what I thought was a bad hard drive and it located some bad sectors and it isolated them and it works perfectly. Google "Chkdsk" and there are many examples of how to run it. It's very simple. Good luck

If you have the windows 7 install disk insert it in your cd player. Respond to the boot from cd and when the install window comes up choose repair and it may fix the problem. The only thing that you may have to do is go into the bios program and change the boot sequence so that it will check the cd drive first. But it may already be setup that way. If you have installed a new virus program disable that first and then try to load the photo gallery.

I recently saw where there is, I believe, an add on attachment that will allow you to connect 8 m.2 drives. Imagine 8tb or possibly more. wow!

That should blow your laptop away. I never heard of more memory slowing a computer down, however you won't use all that memory unless you are working with big video and image files. I hope you added a couple of 1080gtx video cards in SLI mode. I'm waiting for the 18 core I9 to come out in October before I build my next rig. Have fun!!

Not happening. An OS is a lot different from renting an elective app. Too many corporate customers to pull such shenanigans. Everyone would just switch to Open source code OS such as Linux.

Is your next fear that Ford, Chevrolet, Honda, Toyota, etc. will start to rent the computer systems that run your car engine? Think of it, millions of cars just abandoned all over the freeways of America.
Paranoia, will destroy ya.

It was pure speculation. MS Office which includes Outlook is subscription and you use to be able to purchase a hard copy, no longer. Hmm I wonder how many Adobe users thought the same thing a few short years ago. You live in a fantasy world if you don't think that is a possibility especially thinking that they owe anyone anything for selling inferior products in the past. It's just for conversation and brushing out the cobwebs in the old brain. BTW I'm in the insider program so I do support Microsoft.

How long do you think it will be before Microsoft, who pushed 100's of million of their users into a free Windows 10 OS and then follow up with 2 upgrades and a 3rd due in Sept, decides that they are going to charge a subscription fee. Small at first then Caty bar the door. Windows is their flag ship and the reason they exist. Then what are our options pay or look at a blank screen. Many of us rely on photo processing programs, storage apps etc. and it sure seems like we are/will be held hostage. Mac users Apple will probably jump on that cash cow so no respite there. Just my thoughts please share yours.

If you are going to spend valuable time learning go with the full version of Photoshop CC 2017. It does some amazing things and the raw module is outstanding. It even has a time line for video. There are plenty of books out there to help you learn the PS and you can use them for future reference. Is it jam packed, yes, but you learn what you want. Why do you think there are so many imitators out there because PS is the one they are all trying to be.

I use Adobe Premiere to do the same and it makes for an interesting presentation. Those who say they don't want to use their cameras for anything but photography surely wouldn't take a take photo's with their cell phone.

The cloud software is here to stay. The next move in that direction will probably be Windows 10. Have you ever seen Microsoft give away an OS? They have spent millions upgrading Windows 10, for free, and another one is due in September. How long will a company give away their flag ship software? It will follow Microsoft Office, which I believe, is subscription only . When they take their OS to a subscription based program you will be locked in and there won't be anything else to run all of our programs. You could go to Apple who likely will jump on the subscription gravy train. Just a thought, but get your credit card ready.
