Here are some additional small in-flight insects from El Dorado Park. I found the shape of the Yellow hairy wasp's proboscis somewhat interesting. Best viewed on download. Thanks for viewing.

These are exceptionally sharp captures!
Is the green face the difference between the dasher & the darner?

Thanks for viewing and commenting raymond. When I searched the web to get an ID on these two dragonflies (because of the different color of eyes) the green-eyed one was said to be a blue dasher and the blue-eyed one a darner. However, an UHH'er whose been studying dragonflies for many years corrected me and said both were Blue Dashers. Apparently doner's have much different body markings.

Excellent sequence! Must have been taken in burst mode. Blue dashers are beautiful, and are especially fun to watch because they have a rather pugnacious in personality. What is likely happening here is that one has a favored perch, and the other was trying to take it (but it didn't work).

Thanks for your comments Mark. Yes, I was shooting in a burst mode. The dasher on the reed never gave up his perch. The invader, if you will, eventually flew off.

This is an excellent set Don. Very sharp and a fine DIF shot. Both dragons are Blue Dashers. A Blue-eyed Darner is a mosaic darner and has speckled markings on the abdomen. The thoracic pattern on both is the same if you look closely. A Blue-eyed Darner is about 65-70 mm while a Blue dasher is about 25-45 mm long.

Thanks for the correction docshark. The webpage I was looking at got the dasher right but missed on the darner. At least I was batting 500.

A resting Blue Dasher encounters a Blue-eyed Darner. Assume the darner dropped by to say hello. Best viewed on download. Shots taken at El Dorado Park, Long Beach, CA. Using a Nikon D500 w/80-400. Thanks for viewing.

I've seen a lot of Snowy Egrets, but none as grouchy as this guy. Great shots. Thanks for sharing.

The nearby Joint Training Base (Los Alamitos, CA) provided the fireworks display. Photos shot from a nearby soccer field. Shot with Z7 24-70. Most shots at ISO 64 at 8 seconds w/remote shutter release, hand held....just kidding, used a tripod. Best viewed on download. Thanks for viewing.

Sometimes one gets lucky. On the first photo, I was shooting the cormorant and did not see the green heron until I processed the photo. I didn't mind this photo bomber... Best viewed on download. Thanks for viewing.

There is a very nice marsh area just a few minutes from my house. Every time I go there I find something to photograph. Yesterday it was Tree Swallows & Dragonflies.

Excellent shots. Especially like the swallows. Thanks for sharing.
