They already had ruined the Palm Springs area while I was living there, some years ago. And you have to be as powerful as Kennedy was to keep them from blocking your view! (or getting away with murder)

It’s interesting that you mentioned farmland. On the way home this evening the local news said that in the US since the year 2000, 30,000,000 acres of farmland have been lost after being converted to subdivisions and the footprint made by wind turbines. Something like 3.5 acres per second. People forget that we need to eat.

And the remaining farmland is being bought up by the Chinese and Bill Gates!!!

Okay, these have no rhyme or reason... I posted a question on UHH & wanted to thank all those who responded with a few of my favorites. My ultimate goal is Ketchikan Alaska (live in Houston) and all points in between. Have a love affair with salmon & since Ketchikan is the "salmon capital of the world" it just makes sense... Right? Please let me know if you have a favorite, & if I have any potential. Thanks again hogs, RPM

I like them, especially the church and the yucca (in Arizona, just out of Phoenix?).

I doubt she can read. She's just had oral programming, and repeats what she's been taught.

No! It will be fried, on or off.

We have to remember that the Sun is getting older. Many of us know what that feels like. The sun feels it too and is getting a little grumpy. In the end the Sun just keeps expanding and will expand well beyond the earth orbit and earth will be a cinder.

Just another thing to worry about and keep you awake at night.

You mean to say you are going to live as long as I will???

Thanks, Loren. I am not a birder, but these patches, in varying darkness, appear on several of our resident ducks. The bushes are not as dense as that angle makes them appear.

Interesting that it's a near perfect rectangle.

Scenes from a quick trip to revisit old haunts a couple weeks ago. For six years we wintered at the Lake Pleasant RV Park to miss Utah winters. We should have repeated that tactic this winter as we have been almost snowbound since December. We have received over a foot of snow in our yard in the last 36 hours!

Nice pictures. I never visited Lake Pleasant during the years I lived in the Phoenix area. Interesting little island just beyond the picnic table. It shows how much lower the water level is than it has been. Question - which one is you???

I don't think that is "AI".
The phone is just programmed to differentiate noise.

Absolutely correct! The phone is not using AI - it's using (in each iteration) the result of the manufacturer's possible use of AI during creation of the phone's improved picture taking/processing software (IPTPS). This may be present in upgrades within a given model, or from model to model, as they learn how to do things better - for most people.

Last week we had a couple of days in which there was no snow or rain. This set was taken on an overcast day to determine how well the 100 - 400mm lens worked hand held without any tc. I am renting the new Sony 70 - 200 at the end of the month and I wanted some comparisons.

Our local lake had no migratory visitors on this day, so the set is our residents enjoying a little break from our constant winter.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Nice pictures, Mike. I like the coloring on the ducks! I've wondered before - how do birds negotiate the bushes with all the thorns? And what is the lavender patch on the duck in the first picture. It doesn't look like a natural color.

With a catastrophe of this scale there is little man could do to mitigate the effects. Much like the possibility of a large planet killing asteroid impact, there is little man could do.

Besides, man is nothing special, when our time comes we will just join all the other species that has gone extinct.

Now, that is true!!! And I can't imagine anyone wanting to "live" under the conditions which will exist - even though some extremely wealthy think they are prepared to do so.

I wouldn't spend any money to overhaul this 16 year old 40D with a bad main dial. When I had this same problem with my much newer Canon 7D Mark II it cost me around $300 for Canon to repair it. It definitely not a screw on the underside that came loose. It will require the replacement of an entire assembly. However, even if it was something as simple as a loose screw. it would still require a significant amount of disassembly of the camera body. He can return that camera and, for a modest additional cost over what he paid for the 40D, purchase the newer and significantly better Canon 50D with its 15mp sensor and much higher resolution LED screen..
I wouldn't spend any money to overhaul this 16 yea... (show quote)

Good that you are sending back to Amazon; you don't want another 40D. Don't go for anything less than a 50D. I have a 70D which I bought new and still am using; it's very good. Also, you don't need a new lens. The 18-135 you have is a very good lens!!!
