I'm a small collector of Lionel trains (O Scale) and would love to see his collection... I understand he's really into the O scale trains... I have a wall ceiling train going through two rooms (including my living room). Christmas time is special in our house... especially for the grandkids...

I'm still trying to get that perfect moon shot. However, I did discover that it is best to go with mostly manual settings. as much as possible. For me shooting at about f88, adjusting the other settings seemed to give me the clearest shots. I agree with the tripod and to shoot with a remote with the mirror already up (live view) to minimize movement. I also experiment with manual vs auto focus (auto seems to work better). A couple of articles I read recommended to shoot the night after a full moon for the best shots. Not sure why, but some do.... I have found ISO 100-400 is about the best range as well and do most my experimenting with adjusting shutter speeds... but then I'm also just a hobbiest...

I guess I should add that I'm using a D7500 with either a Tamron 18-400 lens (DX lens) and a Sigma 150-500 lens (an FX lens). So far my best shots have come from the Tamron...

I suspect that many people (like me) may initially purchase a starter camera (my first was a D5100) simply because they feel that it'll do what they believe it'll do for their wants or needs at the time. To many, starter cameras may seem awesome and they really don't want to invest a lot of mony. In other words, their perception of photography comes from a limited base of experience and knowledge. Many realize that after a period of time and exposure to photography (no pun intended) there's a lot more to it than they originally thought.

I have that lens on a D7500 and really like it. A bit bulky, but very lean for what it does...I'm very happy with the pics it takes...

There's a lot of information on line concerning Lithium Ion batteries, but I haven't found anything where they caused a fire problem in a camera. One article stated that there's an incident every 10-11 days on airlines in the United States with the batteries causing a problem. It is recommended that all the batteries be stored with a protective cover over the contacts and only be transported with carry-on baggage. I use a couple Anker battery rechargers for my iPhone and iPad. They can get a little warm during charging, but not too hot. I've never had a camera battery get warm that I can remember. So for me it's still one in the camera and two in the bag in plastic cases. I only remove the one in the camera for long term storage without use...

Now... with all that being said, awhile back Nikon did have a recall on EN-EL15 batteries for overheating issues. The problem was corrected and subsequently the EN-EL15a batteris are a result of that, making the batteries even safer. As for compatibility or functionality purposes, there are no other differences between the two of them...

Then there's Darwin's Law... That's when you know that there's going to be an undesirable outcome if you do or do not do something, but you choose to do or not do it anyway...

I keep my batteries in their own small cases to protect them. I don't take them out after each use, but have done so when I know the camera won't be used for a long time (which doesn't happen given I have 8 grandchildren)...
