Just LOVE your series!! Any time there is a lighthouse in a photo, I'm "Over the Moon" & yours are spectacular. I'm originally from Bay City, MI but didn't get interested in lighthouses until several years after I moved to Florida. Michigan is a great state to capture lighthouse since they have the most of any state & have lots of different styles. You've made me home sick!!
Thank you, so kind of you. If you are missing Michigan and want to see more, I have a public FB page under SueFi_Photography. I live up in NW Michigan, sort of near Traverse City, so that is the area where most of my photos are taken.
Excellent photo Bill, you made the best of dreary conditions.
I kind of want to see the scene without the forefront trees, but it is a scene with so much energy.

Here’s another BnW pic of my granddaughter. Comments? Thanks everyone!
You have a beautiful granddaughter and have taken some lovely shots. I would highly suggest you create a posting and ask for thoughts, instead of adding it to this one. You will have more thoughtful and focused answers.

Being mostly a black and white photographer, my preference is the first. However, I think the photograph needs a bit more contrast to make it really work well.

I am agreeing with all advising more contrast and are making adjustments accordingly. I have increased it in this one, would you advise more yet? What areas would you doge/burn?
I was out for some exercise on a beautiful Michigan winter late afternoon, the feel of the impending Spring was in the air. I stopped now and then for a shot, when I saw the reflection of the trees in the puddles on the water. Capturing the sun bursting through the trees and the reflections, made for a nice composition. Converting it to B&W, seemed to really bring it to life. What do you think?
Thank you to all who have commented, so many kind words, some helpful suggestions/insight and more. Yes, I was not prepared that day with more memory. It was a new camera and while I had a backup plan with my other DSLR with dual card slots, this one doesn't have that. I have solved that issue now. to Bunko who asks if they built that lighthouse during low tide, our Great Lakes do not have tides (there is a change with the moon, but it is so small, it is not discernable) but the lighthouse is at the end of a cement pier.

I would have done 1/1000 minimum. Next time try it for waves. Thanks.
I have...and decided that sometimes I want more movement, not stop action. I shot as fast as I did due to the light conditions. Thank you for sharing your ideas.

Did you say what your shutter speed was? And were you happy with it?
They ranged a bit. Most were at 1/400th, the earlier ones I started at 1/250. Happy with it? I think so.
