Paper is a perfect example of the ridiculousnous of the SAE system compared to the European system, which is just SO simple.

A4 paper is very similar to US Letter size. A3 is exactly double A4, and A5 is exactly half; the system extends from there, A2, A6 etc. Envelopes work similarly.

Unnecessary complication and information overload are banes of modern life. I understand MS Word allows you to paginate document in more than 200 ways - how utterly pointless. Likewise the construction company's pickup truck, going the same speed a traffic, with it's yellow flashing lights. What purpose does that serve??

Again, nothing magical about the existing sizes used for drywall, all rather arbitrary.

As a previous poster noted, the issue is retro fitting, but at some point, hopefully we'll drag ourselves away into the 21st century.

If we are too lazy to do that, at least simply by using feet and decimal feet.

Elimination of fractions would be a useful, and attainable, goal.

The retro fitting would indeed be a huge problem.

Not everything is easier -- building with the standard 16" on center equals 40.64 centimeters -- try finding .64 centimeters on a ruler!

This is part of the problem of converting people - everyone assumes that what they done all their lives is the best, only way to do things. There's certainly nothing magical about 16' centers.

Having used both Imperial and metric all my file, the metric system is FAR and away easier mor logical to use, since everything relates.

A liter, 1000ccs, of water weighs 1 kilogram.

A cubic ft of water, 1728 cubic inches or 537 fluid ounces, weighs around 6.34 pounds or 101 ounces.

If I've understood correctly, most gov contracts in the US are metric.

Engineer's rules in the US (I have two of these as 10ft tape measures) are feet and decimal feet, which is what is used in most US oilfield filed ops.

This is an entertaining view of it all, Washington's Dream from SNL

People seem to forget that the reason China makes some crappy goods is that American buyers will suck them up as fast as possible in the interests of cheap.

We no longer understand the differences between price quality and value.

China has the capability to produce outstandingly high quality goods - and does so - but we want to worship at the alter of 'saving money'. We've been (mis-)educated into buying garbage because it is short-term-cheap.

We frequently miss by having to repeat buy because our money-saving rubbish broke, and then don't understand why.

Adding to the highly valid comments above, I think it is fair to say that UNLESS THERE IS A TRULY CRITICAL REASON TO SWITCH*, if you are an expert in one system, there is very little point and a lot of downside (read time & monetary investment). Both Mac & PCs are broadly capable of of doing the same thing, just in different ways, some of which are easier for some people, less so for others. [That may not be true for music, so I understand. My brother runs some music program on his $16,000 Mac Pro and apparently there is no PC equivalent. He'd like there to be, as he was PC network professional for some years and prefers PCs].

As a computer user since 1982 and a PC user since since 1985 (oh Compaq luggable where are you now?) I'm a dyed into the wool PC user and can't imagine changing. I tried to use Macs exclusively for nearly a year and found it an incredibly frustrating experience & couldn't wait to get rid of them - and there's an unused iPad somewhere in a drawer. My oldest friend is the exact opposite, 101% Mac all the way, won't use my Android even to make a call.

I think it depends on what type of brain you have and whether or not you like looking under the hood, perhaps. I want to know everything about my PC, from BUS timing on; my Mac pal has no clue - and no need to know - what a file structure is for his family of Mac products. We're both right.

"You pays your money, and chooses your poison".

* Truly critical means some totally overriding reason to change - a program only available on one platform, or a work change where one might be obliged to switch systems as examples.

The short answer is no! You can not buy a an android phone and put an Apple Operating system on it. If you could you would more than likely be violating licensing agreements.

And in any case, there's absolutely no point, as the hardware and software of each system as designed specifically to suit.

Just because a phone has a well-known lens affiliation, it definitely does not mean that it will take better photos than a different phone with its own camera system.

Short version, it is REALLY complicated stuff, far far more so than getting say an adapter to use a Nikon special purpose lens on a Fuji for example.

It's that last paragraph again;)

It's a very convoluted solution in each case but you can run some Android apps (I've only tried a few just to see what happens) by running Samsung's DEX under Parallels on Mac.

I've seen a PC running IOS, which I understand is even more convoluted and even less efficient than vice versa.

Personally I buy computers and phones AFTER deciding what software I want to use.

PCs and Mac's are closer together than ever, but still have enough differences to warrant careful choice-making.

I wish GEM had been able to continue development on its own path as back in its day it delivered a user experience superior to either Mac and PC, IMO.

Just because someone has done it, does not mean that it is a commercially viable thing. If it were, Apple's lawyers would swarm all over it and shut it down.

Partnerships with camera companies are sometimes about the technology, but most often, they are about the brand image.

Apple has good reason to limit its product range — it can concentrate on quality and suitability for purpose, for the broadest range of users.

I have to disagree somewhat with your last paragraph - should perhaps have read "it can concentrate on revenue generation and profitability".

I own Apple stock, but Android phones and Windows-based PCs as I'm not a fan of the walled garden approach from a technical perspective, but we're a mixed household with examples of each.

Usually, such cross-over arrangements - running IOS on PCs or Windows on Macs etc - is done for specific reasons and frequently results in some (or much) loss of native capability.

I always think of cell phones as semi-useful devices. They do a lot of things rather poorly. Both Android and IOS are also semi useful operating systems. I have a cheap phone that I use on rare occasions that is fine. I have no Apple products as this company sees its customers as suckers. Admittedly, Samsung is not far behind. I live in an area with marginal service and also travel in areas with no cell service.

Perhaps not yet having my second coffee as yet makes me grumpy, but how does this relate to the OP's question, or indeed make any useful contribution about anything?

Happens frequently - VERY annoying, and extremely poor manners.

In real terms, charging a car at 1200A or 2400A @1000v is more or less the same thing, i.e., not going to happen;)

Typically a car with a range of 300 miles would have around 70kWh battery if not more. Now with over 900 miles the battery must be over 200kWh. The batteries used in EV are some 400V and some 800V. Assuming that this battery is 1000V then to charge the battery fully in 10 minutes the charger must deliver at least 2400A at 1000V.

This is an equation with which Toyota is "probably" familiar.

Equally obviously, they must have found a way, short-cut, of some kind, since, as you point out, 2400A @ 1000v is not remotely a realistic possibility.

It's been interesting reading some of the comments in the thread. I'm always amused by how some people will quickly adapt to new technology in cameras (mostly unused by most people, but it's shiny and new so let's buy it) but decry and denigrate concepts they don't want to think about or understand.

99.9% of the population has no serious clue about all it takes, the unbelievable cost and huge effort by hundreds of thousands of people, to get that gallon of gas into a vehicle, nor all the processes that make controlling that air/gas explosion useful, yet still bleat on about how it must be maintained.

Oil has had a wonderful ride - and I loved working in the industry for 40+ years - but it's time to move on.

Technology, with it's many faces, is like a freight train coming down the tracks. Good, bad or indifferent, it's on its way as an unstoppable.

King Canute would have understood.
