No... it is not your imagination. I can't speak to the technique. But the people look like mannequins.

Another photographic failure.

Perhaps an ordinary snapshot victory.

Noisest little birds you will ever find.

You're right. They are noisy. We have a ceramic birdhouse hanging just steps from our door to the deck. They've been in there building a nest. Noisy is right!

Nice pic.

just one small aspect of this might be...

We old farts have a lot more time to spend on photography... and so may (or can) get more involved... as opposed to just snapping quick pics as so many youngsters do. Later in life... when they have more time... that could change.

IMHO for possibly one small part of the equation.

What are you trying to convey? bbrowner (above) properly analyzes the color, but the B&W is a more "solemn" approach.

In the opinion of some. But not necessarily all.

Black and White photos often lend themselves to high contrast. This image does not have a great deal of contrast… or possible contrast of light and shadows.

While there is not much color in the other version version… it does add warmth to material that is basically cold.

I therefore feel that the color version has the edge over the B & W.

Many years ago I photographed a lot of costume jewelry... 35mm slides. Vey difficult. To get to the point... use a material (whatever it may be) that will not show lint, etc. Or a material that can easily be cleaned of that same stuff.

Of course today with PP, you can erase those kind of spots. Back then... if you didn't see it before making the shot... you were stuck with it.

It must be a first on this (frequent) topic. So far... no "real camera" phrase used yet.

Thanks Barry - I'll certainly mention it to him.

These days, he may not be able to get his lessons. But if you Google "how to hold a cello bow"... there are videos that can at least start him on the right track. The correct grip will give him more flexibility with his bow hand. It has to be very stiff right now.

I was a trumpet player. But did study some cello while in the Air Force stationed in Waco, TX.... in the mid-50s at Baylor U. I studied in your state... at Oberlin.

Good Luck to him.

Very nice set of pictures.

It's good to see a young kid interested in playing the cello.

But because I was a professional musician and teacher (retired)... I must ask you to have his teacher instruct him in the proper way to hold his bow. It will help him play better.

Whatever your answer might have been would have been satisfactory. I simply saw many possible reasons for the way that you spoke about... that I was curious exactly what you meant. Perhaps I was reading too much into it!

You’ve been a member here for a long time, I see. You know all the different ways things are perceived at UHH.

Thanks for the clarification.

I love Baltimore. My daughter graduated Hopkins. Always remember the crabs at Bo Brooks after the graduation.

And coming down from Jersey for the 2nd Giants/Colts championship game! Our lousy seats were right next to Toots Shor. My Giants lost!

I look at this photo you posted and am quite pleased with what I see. Nice work.

However I'm trying to understand what you wrote about the difference between what you saw...what the cameras able to reproduce... and what you posted.

I can't figure out if it's an indictment of the iPhone versus the DSLR. Or is it the possibility that a camera cannot absolutely reproduce what your eyes see. Or is it praise of Lightroom's ability to bridge the gap between a camera and the human eye.

I like the picture very much... but am completely confused by your text. Can you explain?

There may be a lot of answers given by viewers here. But but your explanation is the one that counts.

Thanks

Barry
