I have a canon 7D as my DSLR & about 6 months ago I purchased a Sony rx100. I admit there is a lot to learn about this camera but it is with me all the time. I got a refurbished model from Sony. When I purchased that was the best deal. Love the camera.

Do wish the camera had more reach, or is it plenty good as a walk-around pocket camera?

I've been using the rx100 ii for about six months and find it to be an excellent camera. There is a learning curve but once you become acquainted with its operation you will be very pleased with the pictures it takes. I highly recommend it.

Parks333: Please comment on range vs. resolution. Has range rarely been a problem with your RX100 Mk2?

The Sony RX100 and Canon S120 have similar zoom ranges, while the Canon SX700 is very different with a 30x zoom. I am not a fan of the superzoom lens, so I would take the SX700 off the list. Between the other two, the S120 has a slightly better focal length range, going to 24mm instead of 28mm on the wide end, but the RX100 sensor is almost 3x larger, which means more light and a better overall image.

That is my dilemma: Focal length vs. sensor size. I am leaning to one of the RX100's because I think most of my photos will be taken at close range, but I would like to see how others have resolved the dilemma.

To Racmanaz: The RX100 Mk2 goes for a little under $700, so that would be my upper limit. I am certainly will to spend less.

I have spent the last couple of years learning how to shoot my Canon 60D. Before that I spent several years learning how to shoot my Digital Rebel. My learning efforts continue.

One of the things that I learned is that sometimes it is too inconvenient and/or obtrusive to carry a large DSLR around. In those circumstances I would like to have a compact camera that I could put in my sportscoat or jacket pocket. I would use the camera for travel, family events, etc. I would also like to be able to print high quality pictures.

For those situations I am thinking about getting one of the following compact cameras: Sony RX100 (Mk 1 or 2), Canon S120 or Canon SX700.

Please share your thoughts on which of those camera would be best suited for my purposes. Thanks.
