Another great place to visit in the Miami Zoo. Also Brevard County Zoo in central Florida but it isn't as big as the Miami Zoo. Jungle Island (between Miami & Miami Beach) is another great spot especially when they give lectures about the various animals they have. Used to be call Parrot Jungle. Miami Seaquarium is also another great place to visit. Lots of photo opportunities.Of course Disney Land & all the adventure parks in that location are great for photographers. I also have heard that the Bronx Zoo is c ageless too although I haven't been there in years. It seems alot of Zoos are now trying to go cageless.

Has anyone thought about his F stop & depth of field. Try changing to Aperture control & testing various F stops & see what you get. Remember guys when the lens is wide open vs the lens at it's smallest opening, the depth of field is certainly effected.

Joer. I bought the Nikon 18-300 1.35-5.6G ED when it first came out. I totally love it. Don't have to change lenses like I did before & I get beautiful sharp pictures. The difference is I use it on a D4 camera. Word of caution. Nikon came out with a cheaper 18-300 lens that have Different lens opening & not as good as the first one so I've heard. From the ad that you posted it looks like it has come down in price about $100.00.

To me high end price cameras (Nikon or Canon) give great pictures. It's the controls & how they are used that is the difference to me. Besides once it leaves the camera & on the computer you can almost fix most things that you feel are wrong with the photo. Film, what you see is what you got. Composing the picture the way you want is most important to me. Can't speak for anyone else. But digital gives us the advantage over film of fixing things. So whichever camera you feel comfortable using, keep practicing till you get the pictures the way you want them, not the way someone else wants them. We all have our preferences in which camera's we like but the choice is up to the individual user.

Guys. Argue all you want about theories. It's the outcome of the picture that counts to me. I never took a photography course & pay no attention to theory. If the image is composed properly & Sharpe who cares about lines per mm or field of view, two thirds theory or what ever else the pros come up with. You can have a simple point & shoot or a very expensive camera & lens, it's the end results that counts. I'm an avid amateur photographer. I takes loads of pictures. I practice, practice & practice to get my best shoots. I've had a local TV personality say I have a good eye for taking pictures. So guys. forget all this crap. just go out, take pictures & enjoy yourselves.

I only use a polarizing filter when there is need for it Like bright sunlight or taking water pictures to help see underneath. I do use a UV filter just to protect the front glass of my lens. When I use the polarizing filter I take off the UV filter. Been told too much glass is no good & degrades the image. I tried it & it does. I also use a lens hood & cap. Protecting the front glass is my #1 priority. You guys can argue all you want but the cost of lenses make me want to protect them anyway I can.

I have the D4 & I love it. You can use FX & DX lenses plus don't take up alot of memory on your compact flash cards or the files on your computer. It's great for shooting action photos. The 16mp is more than enough unless you are enlarging a picture to a very big size. For an 8 X 10 the D4 is perfect. I was reading reviews on the internet about the D4s. They said if you have a D4 it doesn't pay to upgrade to the "s" cause there is not that much difference between the two cameras. One thing I told my son was that you can have the most expensive camera & lens but if you don't compose the picture properly you're going get s--t. If you have a simple point & shoot 7 you compose the picture properly, you will get a great picture. Keep that in mind too.

Deepdiverv. I totally agree with you. I hope you saw the 2 pictures I posted. I also have the original version of the lens & I too get super great pictures. Don't know about the new version that is about to come out. You just can't compare the two lenses. It's like comparing apples & oranges. F1:3.5-5.6 is just not the same as F1:3.5-6.3, no matter how you look at it.

Steve Stoneblossom: There is a difference in the 18-300 I bought and the one you show in the ad that you posted. The one I have is f1:3.5-5.6G ED VR & the one in the ad is f1:3.5-6.3G ED VR. That is probably why there is about $100.00 difference in price. Still it's still a good buy when it replaces two big lenses that you don't have to lug around. As for the original inquiry about the 299.95 price I still think it's a typo error. Companies have wised up & always print a disclaimer in small print at the bottom of the ad in case that happens. Good luck in trying to get it for 299.95. It ain't never going to happen unless the glass is inferior. I'm attaching two pictures that I took with my lens. Hope you guys like them.

What is the lens opening? I bought the 18-300mm 1:3.5-5.6G ED lens when it first came out. It was 996.95 retail price & it had a $300.00 instant rebate. So I paid 696.95 for the lens. I use it on my D4 camera, which takes both FX or DX lenses. I don't regret buying it for one second. It replaced to of the big lenses Im used to drag around with me. It also gave me some great looking pictures. Can't go wrong by getting this lens at any price although I think the price is a misprint. The only way I can think of a cheaper price is the lens opening is not very big. I believe & correct me if I'm wrong, there is less detail in the pictures.

I have an old lens that I used from my film days on my F-4. It's a 75-300mm F1.4:5-5.6 lens that has an aperture ring. If it's not locked on 32, you will get the FEE error message. Once that is set on the ring, the camera can be set for the f stop that you desire in aperture mode.

I looked at the D800 & the D4 when they first came out, I said to myself do I need to waste file space & am I going to make bigger pictures than 8 X 10. Plus do i want to buy all new lenses. The answer was no. although the D4 is double the price I get excellent pictures without spending a load of money buying new lenses & bigger memory cards. i can use both FX & DX lenses. When Nikon came out with a 18-300 with a 300 rebate I bought it. So now I just use two lenses instead of a crap load. I use the 18-300mm f1:3.5-5.6G ED & the 80-400mm f1:4.5-5.6D ED I get great pictures with super detail.
