That is still shorts weather!! -17deg in Iowa with -35 to -45 wind chills !!!!

It's times like these that I definitely am glad of my move to Texas from Michigan. Coldest day I remember in Michigan was -40 but it was a calm day so no appreciable wind chill.

Don't have any shots of it, but it's supposed to hit 36degrees here tonight. Is that cold enough, or is that kinda wimpy?
SS

Yeah, a little wimpy considering some places are getting 70 degrees colder than that.

Since much of the upper half of the US is having below zero F temps, anyone have some cold shots they don't usually get? Not that cold here in Texas, relatively, but man Minnesota etc. are way under zero. Just saw some interesting ones on the nightly news.

This does not require being connected to the internet, simply to your "home network". Being able to share data between different machines is really nice.

I have the 2TB 'my cloud' and use it as redundant backup, 3rd copy. I really like the WD Photo app for access to photos from iphone/ipad via internet or wi-fi. I can put some photos in a folder called 'take a look' and my kids can see them (and all photos also) from their devices. I also don't have to sync my ipad/iphone daily to have access to all my recent photos, although away from home access is slower than access on home network.

The back button will not initiate autofocus while the image display is being displayed on the D5100.

i ran a trackhoe laying a pipeline at grapevine back in 70's.

Understand that, however after pressing shutter 1/2 way and LCD is blanked out, BBF fails to work. Only if using play button to blank LCD or pressing either menu or info before the shutter will BBF work.

You would not recognize Grapevine at all from 40 years ago.

I have a problem with back button focus (BBF) on my refurb Nikon D5200. I called Nikon and explained and eventually they confirmed it shouldn’t work as it does. I’d like to know if anyone else has this issue with their Nikon AF-ON button (as assigned to the AE-L/AF-L button.) When I use the BBF to auto-focus it works fine, I can take the picture, refocus if needed and take another and all is fine. However, I have the image review off and only press play if I want to review a shot. If I press play, then press the shutter release ½ way to take another picture, the BBF is ‘dead’. However, if I press the play button again first to remove the image review or press Info or menu before the shutter release, it works fine. It was quite frustrating to have BBF failing until I figured out I had to close the image review first without using the shutter release before attempting another shot. I think (and Nikon rep agreed) that I shouldn’t have to close the image review with other than the shutter release to ensure the BBF still works.
I could probably get in the habit of closing the image review by pressing play again every time; or I could send in the camera in for repair before my 90 warranty expires in late Jan.

Welcome Larry, the CJ7 Jeep's were very popular back in the "70's". They are still in pretty big demand.

Mine is still special to me, but not so much to my wife...

Actually I have read all those already and feel like I "know" quite a few here.

Hello, In 1979 I purchased a Canon AE-1 and took about 3000 slides over 6 years. However, I started using point and shoot film cameras instead after our third child and moving from Michigan/Indiana to Texas in 1988. I ended up getting rid of the unused AE-1 in the early 90’s and started using digital P&S in 1999 and then Blackberry and finally iPhone. However, after visiting home in Michigan this summer and noticing how much nicer my niece’s Sony A200 DSLR pictures looked than the iPhone’s; I decided to get back into an SLR with a digital one. I bought a used Nikon D60 with 18-55mm kit lens from a friend who had upgraded to D3200 just to see if I really wanted DSLR and would it satisfy me or I would need something more. Gear Acquisition Syndrome kicked in right away and I got a AF-S 35mm f1.8 DX prime and then still decided I needed to replace the D60 for better ISO and a few newer features. I now have a refurbished Nikon D5200 with refurbished 80-200mm f3.5-5.6 DX VR II. The D60 and kit lens went to my daughter but I kept the 35mm 1.8.
I started reading from the UHH digest about the same time I got the DSLR in October. I decided to go back to the oldest UHH page and selectively (about 3-4 threads per-page) read from old to new through all 1000+ pages!
My user name comes from the Jeep CJ7 I bought new in 1976 and I guess the interesting part is I still have it/drive it after 37 years. Wife and kids say they are going to bury me in it when the time comes.
