Thanks Jim, but I no longer use the Black Rapid system. But - it is good to know that BR users have another safety option. I would like to see it, so I will e-mail you.
I graduated to the Peak Design straps and system. Love the way it is thought out, and if you use their device called Capture - the camera does NOT dangle, swing or pivot on its own. Best darn invention in camera carrying I have ever used - because I can use it on a sling, or backpack strap, or a belt, and in several "orientations". With our without any of their hand or long straps.
You may want to look at their site ( www.PeakDesign.com )

I am sorry you are 100% correct I miss stated my point which was no one has been able to substantiate damage to the camera due to using the tripod mount. I think I have said a couple times in this post any strap can fail. It really is up to the user to inspect and check it regularly. I am not saying that it would have done the poster you mention any good. I don't know anything about those circumstances I am just saying it is a good practice. Think about it you could be hanging thousands of dollars from a $50 strap. You may want to check it once in a while

I agree. I have a friend here that lost his camera via the BR Strap and has devised a back up that attaches to both the BR as well as the normal strap eyelets. Fairly ingenious .

You are correct not one User here has been able to show any evidence of actually having a problem but many have come on and said that the strap is bound to fail for various reasons and so a perfectly good product has been damned due to rumour and innuendo. The truth is Black Rapid makes great straps, there is no evidence that they are unsafe or pose any potential for damage to a camera

I'm not a BR user but have no reason to think they're not a good product. However, I saw this item posted today on a D7100 Facebook Group -- just thought I'd pass along for anyone who might have an interest.

A friend and professional photographer came up with a "safety net" for the Black Rapid after it let loose and his D-300 bounced on the floor and broke.

He now uses a Domke Strap Clips and 2 "O" rings and connets the strap to the "O" rings and to the Black Rapid and then the Domke cut/open end to the cameras strap connection points.

If anyone wants to see how it is done - send a PM to me and I can forward you pictures of how it all goes together and what to order from B&H

It might be interesting to debate what the best print photography magazines are. I like to read them. But, my personal opinion is that the US photo mags are pretty lightweight. For eons, they seem to have followed the dictum, if you can't say something nice about a product, don't say anything. They seem so dependent on the ad revenue from the camera and lens manufacturers that they can't be relied on to provide unbiased reviews. In addition, they tend to cater to the least-experienced.

I've gotten into the habit of buying international photo mags at Barnes & Noble. In my view, the best for the serious advan

amateur is a German magazine called c't Digital Photography (I think c't is a German abbreviation for computer). It's a little expensive compared to the domestic mags, but a typical article probably contains 10X the number of words in, say, Popular Photography or Shutterbug. c't won't insult your intelligence, and you'll learn new things with every issue.

In second place, in my opinion, are most of the UK photo magazines. That includes, in no particular order,

Practical Photography, (http://www.photoanswers.co.uk/Photography-Magazines/Practical-Photography-Magazine/)

Digital Camera World (http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/)

Advanced Photographer (http://magazines.whsmith.co.uk/Magazines/Art-&-Design/Photography/Advanced-Photographer.cfm)

Expert Photographer (don't know URL)

Digital Photographer (http://www.dphotographer.co.uk/

Digital Photo (http://www.dpmag.com/

So, what's your opinion? Do Pop Photo, Outdoor Photographer, and Shutterbug suck? If so, why? Are there some good US photo magazines? What's the best English language photo magazines in the world? Or, is print irrelevant, and you should stick to the internet for what's new?

I subscribe to DigitalCamera, N Photo, c't Photography all European products. The only American pub that is any good is Nature Photographer.

My 2 cents and it is time for the U.S. publishers to wake up.

I think you have your question answered, but I have a related one....
I use BBF on my nikons, with the AF-ON button focusing, and the release button ONLY releasing, not focusing again. QUESTION - what do you all do with the AE-L / AF-L button. I am undecided and have tried it both ways. Seems there are times when I want the Exposure and the Focus locked, and other times I only want the Exposure locked. Depends if I am re-composing or moving the focus point to the subject.

What do you all do?

With BBF there is no worry about recomposing - just set the exposure and do not touch the BBF again. No worry regarding the AE-L or AF-L ~ don't use them no need to.
