Yes, camera and Cal were on tripod and stand.

That was a thought. I took this in the room with available light. It was slightly dark. I was thining the slow shutter speed was picking up movement.

Over Dec I was doing a lot of engagements. The lens got bumped once or twice. One time while turning the focus ring, at the point where the lens retracts and then extends again, it was getting stuck. That went away. Now at a certain point I feel a 'very mild' scrapping. Wondering if it is time to send the lens in for an overhaul, tune-up and oil change.

What would have been my next question. I am wondering if I send it to http://www.discountcamerarepair.com/ or Nikon. Nikon is the 'no brainer'

Bobbee,
If you use bounce flash, you will eliminate possibility of camera movement & get a better exposure.

Jay Pat, Thanks again. They look to be made from plastic. My filter was 'really' tight. Will these work on those like mine that are really extra tight?
Thank you
Marv

Yep, they will work just fine !

Hi, I'm a "newbie" and had been looking for a way to get my stuck UV lens (cheap Vivitar) off my Canon 70-300mm.
I had tried all the normal solutions, rubber band etc. and even tried (a little) a big pair of channel locks, but not too hard. I didn't want to hurt either lens. I was just about to give up when, after inheriting my mothers house and things, I remembered an old Jar lid opener.
It is made by a West German company named "LEIFHEIT".
I carefully put the jaws on the lens edge and they fit real good and didn't slip. It took a little pressure to turn the lens. Once loose, I worked it back and forth. The threads weren't crossed, just very tight.
The lens came right off with NO damage to either lens or the ring of the UV lens.
I don't know where or if these can be found but I'm keeping mine around forever.
I hope this helps (if they can be found) for anyone who has had to go through this frustrating situation.

mjwiese,
I bought mine from B&H. They come in pairs, one for lens and one for filter. Also they are sized for groups of diameters. If you google "lens filter wrench", you will find available at many photo stores.

What is the meaning of the above? Is it something positive? I read that it's done to the Nikon D7100, true? Why is it done? Thanks.

cboysen, google "camera anti aliasing filter", for many explanations and companies that will do modifications such as

I want to shoot portraits of my customers and have them ready to show when we are finished shooting. Can I use LR for this? Does it have a presentation mode? Thanks in advance for ya'lls help.

Hi Philip,
Yes you can, you will use the data cable that comes with your camera and depending on its length, you can use a USB extension cable. From the FILE MENU, select TETHERED CAPTURE. suggest you goto HELP for MORE info.

Here is another DOF calculator where the algorithm takes diffraction into calculations. There are 3 versions from George Douvos on iTunes apps. Go to http://www.georgedouvos.com for info.

Hi,

I just got your email telling me what I had just emailed to tell you. Let me see if I can sell it for you. I know $108 isn't a life-changer, but if I can sell the ink I'll send you the money.

I belong to two clubs, so we might get lucky.

If you don't have any luck, I'll buy them.

Jerry,
Over 5 yrs ago I bought an in-expensive Brother 2040 series laserjet (under $100 and still available today), for non-pix printing. You don't have to worry about clogs and can print over 2000 pages before replacing a toner cartridge. This thing has never burped or had a paper jam !
I have an Epson R1900 (8 colors) and after having to waste 8 carts to fix a clog several years ago, I print a head check pattern (very small amount of ink) every 2nd week unless I print. Since doing this for last several yrs, I use a lot less ink than running head clean cycles. I also had problems with 2 different aftermarket inks. I now stick with Epson ink and papers.

Suggestions for portable small screen (roughly 7 inches) to connect via HDMI Canon 1DX. I have trouble determining focus and general picture quality from small built-in screen. I hope I can find a small screen, battery powered with external battery pack with an input compatible with the 1DX HDMI MINI output. I'd appreciate suggestions.

tillman, check out the remote screen by Aputure. I bought their smaller remote years ago.

Ok, so I'm struggling to reproduce what I see on monitor in my print results. I did calibrate the monitor and my photos look great there.
I'm just looking to print some small glossies to view before I send off for big 16x24 canvas prints. and I have 2 issues---
1) the 8x10 looks muddy and blurred when printed. Top half of pic is fine (blues and reds), but brown and greens come out looking smudged.
2) I did send out thru a Walmart photo center for a 11x14 poster and the orange-browns were very underexposed compared to the sample 4x6 I printed at home on HP Photosmart 209m.

So my question... I can calibrate printer to sRGB or Nikon CYMK, etc, etc. what would be best?
I have attached the two pics in question. First is at Sedona and second is in Antelope canyon. I really just want two large canvas mounts for the den! I shot in RAW, so I can do some editing as needed.

Mike, you didn't mention how you calibrated monitor. To verify WYSWYG, I would take file to at least 2 more local stores and get 4x6's or 5x7's to compare. If they all look about the same as your Photosmart, then problem may still be a monitor issue.
Years ago I struggled with printing. I would send a file to WHCC and print looked good, but not on my 1st Epson.
Problem #1: using Adobe software (PSE & PS) was that I had Color Management turned On on both the ptr (Epson) and Photoshop. This will result in a strange darker print. Never have both turned on ! (I use Photoshop to manage color)
Problem #2: monitor calibration, I originally used Quick Gamma (free but not very accurate) then purchased DataColor Spyder3.
#3 is the fact that your monitor is back-lit and print is reflective, and cannot faithfully reproduce hilites to match your monitor. Brightness setting is just as critical as color.
In the last 10 yrs, I have used 3 Epsons, the last 2 have been photo printers R800 and now a R1900. I no longer have print problems and my prints look almost identical to WHCC prints. Can't justify the big bucks for additional software & hardware. Google "printer calibration" for more info !
Recommended DPI for prints is 300.
Multiply 300x16=4800, and 300x24=7200. 4800x7200=34.5mpixels req'd. 240dpi, 22mpixels. Depending on your file resolution, you might get away with it without up sizing. I use OnOne Perfect Resize for large posters.

Do you know if "Perfect Resize" is considered to work better than "Alien Skin Blow Up" or "PhotoZoom Pro"?

James, google "perfect resize vs alien blowup". You will find quite a few reviews. I have been using Resize (Genuine Fractals) for years before it was sold to OnOne. You will see it's still on top of the heap.

I have been shooting a D7100 doing landscape, people, interiors, but have never gotten involved with Macro and I want to get into it now. As a starter, what lens should be the first purchase? IF you can tell me why, that really helps.

Hello All...
I have been in digital for several years now...shoot with a Nikon D700 and a D7100...
Have recently become intrigued with black and white images...How to make "wow" black & whites?
Any and all advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Bert

Bert, I found a great B&W instructional video pkg, thru an advertisement, at www.udemy.com. "The Art of Black & White Photography" narrated by David Nightingale. They periodically have great specials and I decided to try it at a significant discount. David uses Photoshop exclusively and divides 6+ hours into 19 segments. His presentation is fantastic if you are familiar with Photoshop. You can download the pkg and work at your own pace. Check it out !

Definitely consider Genuine Fractals (considered standard for resizing), now known as Perfect Resize from OnOne. Much better than Photoshop !
