Towards the end photog makes a move & elk backs off. Maybe he should have made his move to the car sooner rather than trying to get some closeups. Dont know what I would do in that situation. Sit still and hope? Run and hope?

What do you do when you meet an elk?

Just wondering, who shot the video?

I've heard this thing hovering above the neighbourhood a few times now and caught the bugger a few streets away high up earlier today. I know its a drone... and a pretty sophisticated one too by the expanded view (and check out the camera!). I just wonder what it is up to. A Jihadi drone? Or am I being paranoid?

Yeah, I put them everywhere. I just have to be sure to keep buying electronics so I keep getting more. :D

From your past equiptment posts, you must have shoeboxes full of those little "Do Not Eat" packets!

There is another source of silca gel: hobby/art stores such as Michaels or Hobby Lobby. It is sold for flower drying art in 1.5LB containers. Just wrap some in coffee filter paper and you have your own little packets - and it can be regenerated.

Just remember, half the population has an IQ of less than 100. And they all shop at walmart:

Love the view angle of the first one. I've never seen that before. Where were you? Merchant Road?

And the plane was designed in 1959!
For those of you in the Pacific Northwest, there is an SR71 at the Evergreen Air & Space museum in McMinnville OR. It sits under the wing of Hughes' spruce goose.
Lockheed's original designation was A12 for the CIA black project Oxcart. Flight tests were conducted at Groom Lake, NV; also known as Area 51. For a decent history of the project, see "Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base" by Annie Jacobsen

Do you have any grand kids. That always works.

That's the ticket. Grandkids or a neighbor kid can get you up and running in no time -- if you like online games!
:-D :-D
Just dont ask anyone over the age of 12. They will look at you like you are crazy and walk away. Over 15 they run.

I'm looking to purchase a mid-level SLR and have kind of gotten stuck at Canon 70d and Nikon d7100 which would you guys/gals suggest?

I had the same quandary about 6 months ago stepping up from a FZ200 (I got a bad case of sensor envy after my panny was stolen). For my purposes I decided that the minor difference in IQ was not significant. My final decision was based on the articulating touch-screen LCD, builtin wifi and the split-photocell focusing system - it really is quick. No matter which one you buy, its only natural that you will wonder if you made the right decision.
Don't worry, they are both quality merchandise and you will be happy with either.

Of Course!
Just wanted to comment that I will be in your "neck of the woods" - London - next week for 5 days. Do you have any suggestions for something I should not miss that is off the tourist track? I won't be doing any heavy-duty photo work. My lady hates it when I lag back and fiddle with my camera

Best Buy claims they will have them in stores by the 18th, maybe you could find one while on your trip. Fry's will be stocking them too, as well as other stores I am sure.

Best buy claims it can be delivered to the local store in 3-5 days. Maybe. The closest Frys is 130 miles. If they have it in stock. I will be heading to London next Monday and will not be back stateside until Nov1. Besides, I will not leave my laptop home until I am certain that I am comfortable with the setup. But thanks anyway MT for the info. Hey. Maybe they will be available in Dubai. They have everything!

This is something I have been dreaming about for years. This WD Passport and my Galaxy Tab 10 tablet would alleviate the need to carry a laptop. But I am leaving for an extended trip next Monday and it is back-ordered! Everywhere! Oh, well, guess I will have to wait until next year...
