I traded up from the 5DMKII to the 6D, no regrets, takes superb pictures, great high ISO performance and terrific low light metering, an easier to handle compact size too. If you have money to throw away, you can get the
5DMKIII, but you'd be better off waiting six months, till Canon comes out with their next generation sensors.

Go directly to the 'Optech' site they have $3.00 shipping right now, and good prices. Plus you can figure out what strap you really need plus accessories. Check out the Utility strap-'Sling'.

You trust the Optech elastic Uni-loop to hold your camera and lens more than a tripod socket?

As stated previously, I absolutely loved the RX100 to a point, and IQ wise the RX1 can't be beat, Leica or otherwise.
But I sold my RX100 and bought a Fuji X100s. What a terrific picture capturing device, probably the best on the market in my humble opinion. I just can't stand taking pictures with my arms outstretched, can't compose accurately and there is no intimacy between you and your subject, not to mention having the ability for a viewfinder with the inside boarder allowing you to see more than your image, enabling you to adjust your composition. This was the single biggest feature with owning a Leica camera. But today Leica is a joke. My original idea was to trade the RX100 for the RX100II and the optional EVF, but being able to compare the two with the hybrid in the X100s, I'm glad I didn't. The X100s makes breathtaking images, so does the RX100 for it's size. All that being said, if they put the RX1 sensor into a X100s body you would then truly have the perfect, fixed lens type camera!

Hey go for it, sounds like your on the right track!
The Sony RX1 is definitely the best quality image maker out there, as long as you can be satisfied with a fixed 35mm equivalent lens and the cost of adding the EVF If your looking for a pocket-able camera, then the RX100II would be hard to beat, with new swivel screen and ability to add the same EVF.
Don't let those who are jealous kid You, there really is an appreciable difference in the image quality of these cameras, in their given categories.

Maybe your feelings about yourself, have little to do with photography at all? I too can have negative feelings about a variety of things in life. But one thing that pulls me out of a rut, is to immerse myself in the act of picture taking, trying to create the best images I can with whatever subject at hand. I take my time, really think about what I'm doing, composing, exposure, focus, depth of field, camera movement, contrast, etc.. become emotionally involved with my subject and it's composition in my viewfinder, then hitting the shutter and capturing it.
That's what I love most about photography.
Skill can play little part in this activity, it's the act of doing that's most enjoyable, seeing the results of my efforts is almost secondary. Heck, when I shot film, it might have been months before I saw the results. Maybe narrow Your focus, concentrate on one type or style for awhile, don't try to master too many things, don't worry about skill level or the type of equipment you have, just experience the practice of photography and maybe You will be able to rekindle your enjoyment when You start to get down on Yourself.

All I can say is, my 80-200 2.8LMKII with
2X MKIII produces much better results
than Your example.
You did use a tripod, right?
My result, with just the 2X, is much improved
over just cropping.

That's why I bought a RX100, to keep in my shirt pocket!

If your going to hang your camera and lens with
any contraption which uses the tripod socket of
the grip as the attachment, I would buy the
OEM grip. I've seen pics of a Nikon with 80-200
and cheap brand grip, with the tripod socket ripped
right out of the grip!
I know My 6D grip has a metal frame and beefy
socket mounting.

Well, I'm just going by how Canon themselves rate the sensitivity over their other, current models.
I haven't had time to test it out for myself.
The 6D's only drawback I see, for a more pro types, would be the lack of a double card slot.
Another thing to remember, the most important
thing above all, the 6D takes as good a quality
image as the 5DMKIII, maybe even better, especially
when it comes to higher ISO settings?

Don't know what your crying about?
Just take the camera back and get a replacement.
There's bound to be a small percentage of duds.
You mention the D600, there's thousands of complaints
about that camera!
Your lucky the problem showed up right away, allowing
a replacement rather than servicing.
May have been someone else's reject?
You've got to be kidding about the 6D vs. 5DMKIII ?
The 6D is 98% of the MKIII, for half the price!
I just picked up my 6D Saturday for $1649
So the top plate is plastic, it's probably much tougher
than titanium, just has to be a little thicker.
Unless one does a lot of sports/action photography,
I think that the MKIII is overkill for the vast majority.
And for most peoples use, the 6D focusing is superior
to most any other Canon or Nikon.
There's also another major reason that the 6D is a better
choice than the 5D MKIII ?
Don't take it personal, just poking fun, my .02 cents worth.

Don't really know why, but I think that this
forum has seniors, 50+, as the vast majority of
participants.
In the 'old days' back in the seventies and eighties
Nikon was the safe bet for anyone wanting to impress
and look 'professional', they also had the largest line
of quality lenses.
Therefore I think the popularity of Nikon is related
to age.
I owned Nikon myself back through the seventies
eighties and ninties, as well as Leica and Mamiya,
but when it came time to go digital,
I switched to Canon and haven't looked back.
Canon has lead the digital era, until very recently.
But thanks to Sony, Nikon has finally caught up,
in technology, if not in quality,
and is definitely giving Canon a run for its money.
Sony is the hot commodity today, and both Canon
and Nikon better watch out.
I still think Canon will pull ahead again in the near future,
a 6D is at the top of my list to Santa,
but I am in love with my RX100.

"It looks cool" isn't far from the truth.
for the vast majority, using an DSLR
telegraphs to everyone that they are indeed,
'a serious photographer'
the fancier lens the better.
Those who go full frame are just saying
the same thing to other photograpers,
or their peers.
It's all about furthering 'the art'.
