I have just logged on to ask the exact same question.... I have Elements 2, Lightroom 3, Gimp and the bundled software that came with my Canon (20D). Too many choices and I have no idea how to use any one of these programs. Can someone advise which program would be the best for a novice to use.
I have never shot in RAW but do intend to. I am using a PC with sufficient grunt and heaps of storage. Darryl

It is a crop that shows a small portion of your pic at 1:1, 100% actual size.

Thank you also gmcase - I didn't see your answer straight away. cheers

When I open a photo in photoshop straight from the camera .. if you look a the tab for the image... mine open at 25%. So if you zoom in until it says 100%...and crop it there .. that is a 100% crop. :)

Ahh thanks photogrl57.....I knew it had to be something simple like that - I am confused no more

Great shots! When I see those teeth it makes me kinda glad I live in New Zealand.......our worst biter is just a lil ole harmless mossie! Oh, we do have one so called 'deadly spider' - it's a tiny thing called a Katipo (distant cousin to the very fearsome Aussie Red Back). If you get bitten by a Katipo they recommend getting the antidote....within 3 or 4 days ~ yeah real deadly is our Katipo!

Hi all, I keep seeing on photos ...."this is a 100% crop...". To my old brain a 50% crop would mean you have cropped out half your photo therefore 100% crop must mean you have no photo left... I know this is not the case so could someone please enlighten me. :?:

In fact number 2 would be the best baby photo I have seen (by a long shot) in years.

Great photos. Number 2 with the angle she is looking at and the open mouth really has impact for me!

Only my thoughts obviously from the comments here, but I find in 1 & 2 the headband and large flower are too distracting. Ahhh, but with number 3 the eyes and the bubbles make it..... this comment is from a guy that has been taking photos since the old 'Box Brownie' days ~ and I still haven't taken a baby shot that I like!

I actually like the hands in the pockets - seems to add some story to the photo for me. Great photo btw.

you already pointed out how they are blending in with the back drop, mostly because of her black shirt and dark jeans.

What I see:
You cropped her big toe off.
His hand position is awkward (the one resting on his knee).
I wish you could see more of his hand resting on her belly.
Is foot pointing to the camera, makes his foot look unproportional to his body.
Maybe if you would have angled them a little??

Thanks MWAC, I will always remember the 'foot' from now on. Are we seeing something different in His arm placement - I think laying on his knee like that is a quite natural position. I agree about his other hand though.

What I like:
the interaction between them, you can sense the love and joy between them.
Lighting is good.
Exposure is great.
You PP is nice as well.

It always amazes me how they can be going down a busy road like this and the horses don't just bolt with every passing car.

You must be reading my thoughts! Just well trained and bought up with traffic I guess.

You need a very large light source, close to her, to avoid those dark and sharply defined shadows, wrr.
The sun surely is a large light source, no doubt. But when you move it 93M miles away, it actually becomes "small". On a bright, sunny day, a white reflector held on the side opposite the sun, will throw light into those shadows and soften the overall look of the photo.
This reflector could be a $100 collapsible "store bought" devise, or a large piece of cardboard cut from a box, painted white. You will actually be able to see effect when you're out there shooting.
Sometimes people use a flash off-camera to achieve the same basic effect.
All this being said, your wife may not like the photo as much as she likes the one you posted. So...there you go!

Hi Danilo, I always seem to gravitate towards your comments in whatever post I am viewing......they are full of little gems of advice. Pleeeease keep it up.
