Is not LR keeping thumbnails separated from the raw files*? (remember I do not use LR) If that is the case there is no proof at all that the raw are being read.

The thumbnails in LR are but copies of the thumbnails in the rawfile. They exist outside of the raw file, and can be converted to jpgs simply by changing the suffix to ".jpg" Unfortunately, these thumbnails are very small, the thumbs in the raw file are bigger.

For whatever reason the data in a raw file which makes up the NEF or CR2 seems to be more vulnerable to corruption than the embedded jpeg. (some raw files have more than one size of embedded jpg), most extractors choose the largest.

If these images are in LR, and if LR cannot read the raw file, it will show the thumb and mark it as image missing. If LR can "see" the raw file, the preview will be shown as good and the only indications of the file being corrupted with show up in the Develop Module.

He has lost the cr2....

I read it as the cr2 raw is corrupt but the preview file still exists within the raw file.

If he means the preview is already separate from the raw, then the thumbs may be recoverable as mini-jpgs, depends what software is showing them. In this case the thumbs will serve as a reminder to back up in future.

I had my RAW images (as .CR2 files) on a hard disk that crashed. I tried all kinds of recovery methods. I can see the thumbnails, but the RAW files are so corrupted they won't display. Is there a way to somehow save the JPG thumbnails as a way to at least have those images. I had some kind of major computer wreck that wiped out my hard disk and completely erased my backup drive.

type into Google "Extract jpeg from cr2" and you will get a lot of sites which provide free extractors. I can't recommend one above the other because I don't use CR2 files.

I use one for extract jpegs from NEF files by Kevin Peng. It works instantly, cleanly and extracts the Large jpg from the raw file. (The large jpeg has the same pixel dimensions as the raw file.)

Make sure you choose one for CR2 files and compatible with your op system.

Some of these work by entering code, some just work by using the "Send to" on the right click menu in Windows.

I appreciate you hanging out and hopefully creating closure to this ugly thing i'm stuck in. ok, lets say for instance, in your screenshot, you have the right monitor with an image in it already, when i want to open a 2nd image from my desktop it falls right on top of the 1st image on the monitor to the right. when i try to move the 2nd image to the monitor on the left, the moment i place the image on the 2nd monitor to the left and let go the mouse, it snaps back to the monitor on the right. hopefully this scenario was as clear as mud. don't know if its PS or the OS, i have windows 8.1 here and windows 7 on my laptop, and just scared to go to windows 10, heard some horror stories about what it does to PP software, and some are fine. My laptop works just fine. thanks in advance Searcher.

I don't have the same version as you, so try Rongnongno's
idea first.

The method I use to move images around two screens is to "Consolidate all to tabs" then drag the image I want on screen 2 by the tab to the second screen.

NOW you have to explain THAT ONE!!!!

I am making a storyboard for a whitegoods supplier who wants to brighten the image of his products with fabrics, flowers etc. When I produce a storyboard, it usually starts with something silly and evolves.

oh Searcher I was hoping that would fix it but it didn't. aww man!!!!! maybe on your CC but not on this. BTW, i do have a copy on my laptop and it works great.....Any more suggestions?

Please let me recap the problem, if I have it wrong, do correct me.

On the screen clip below there are 2 monitors,

On the right is screen 1 where I work
On the left is screen 2 on which is the control panel of a washing machine.

I am cloning the washing machine panel from screen 2 to the flower pictures on screen 1

Is this what you are trying to do?

Probably the same in CC,

On the menu bar Windows > Arrange > Float All in Windows

That should leave the images where you put them.

You probably haven't got 57000 pictures; if you have 20000 raw images and 20000 xmp files, that will record as 40000 objects, plus each folder and sub-folder are objects etc. Grand total is the sum of every object.

I have been using "Focus Peaking" on my OMD EM-10 camera.
Do any UHH members know when the "Peak" has been obtained?
Is it: when the edges of the image are just showing white or
Is it: when the the image is almost completely white.

Its a dreadful video but it does explain.

I almost hijacked another thread (http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-341429-4.html#5732826) when the discussion briefly turned to darkroom disasters, and I realize I've been starting an awful lot of threads, but just this one more?

Start as many as you like, your stories are entertaining and bring back memories.

curiosity is driving me nuts.
Why would anyone take a normal 7000x4900 pixel 36M file and squish it to 1200x800 pixel 3M and then try to win a competition?
How do you retain the resolution and clarity?

Surely if all competitors have to do the same, it's a level playing field.

Hi all

I am entering a photo competition that is asking for an image size of 1200 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi and between 3 & 5 mb. Now sorry if I'm sounding a bit thick but I just cannot get my image size between 3 & 5 mb at the image size they are asking. Am I missing something, can anyone be kind enough to clarify please. Thank you in advance for your expertise.

I could not get the jpeg large enough but when I saved as a TIFF, the size was

1200 x 1000 pixels
File size 3.46 MB
Resolution 72ppi (any res will give same result)

The hair selection alone makes this a worthwhile procedure to learn, the rest is a great bonus.

Thank you for bringing this tutorial home to PP section.
