A bit extreme, perhaps, but usage is important. In my estimation it is very critical when educated people misuse grammer, spelling, and punctuation. The uneducated think that is the way it should be said. We have a local news anchor that, when covering a story in the field, referred to a helicopter 'hoovering' over the scene. I had visions of a giant vacuum sweeper moving across the land sucking up everything in its path.

The excuse often given in our area is that that is way one person speaks, so we should not criticize. Where did all the good English teachers go?

I am 75 years old, so maybe the standards of my generation are lost forever.

All other comments aside; How do you spell rugged--N I K O N. The film was fun to watch, but realistically, it would never be worth the expense to salvage that camera, if you could even find someone who would do it.

Approach with caution. Those things can take a finger off, and their bite behavior is lightning fast.

The flowers with no leaves are known by several common names. Surprise lilies, resurrection lilies, magic lilies and naked ladies are some of the names I have heard. Surprise, magic and resurrection comes from the nature of the way they grow. In the spring and early summer the plant sends up a cluster of long bladed leaves that die down in a few weeks. This us when the photosynthesis takes place. That energy is then stored in the bulbs. Late summer they send up the stalks with the blooms on them, thus the name surprise or resurrection.
Scientific name Lycoris squamigera.
The only reason I can think they would be called naked ladies is the beautiful blossoms with no foliage under them. I used to have fun with friends when they asked what I had been doing on a particular day. I would tell them I had been out taking pictures of naked ladies. Your technical quality is great. I too have a Sigma 17-70 lens and it is a fine piece of glass, as are most of the Sigma lenses.
Composition is a highly personal thing and your comp was good. It is difficult when dealing with bugs and things of that nature and when you move around to try to improve their 'pose' they sometimes take off. My personal preference when doing insects is to try to catch them in a not so straight forward composition. I like them heading up or down in a photo.
I have attached a photo of a grasshopper I did a couple years ago. I shot about a dozen exposures and liked this one because it seemed to lend some personality to the guy. I was very fortunate he didn't take off. One thing that helped was that I was using a Sigma 70-200 with macro mode which allowed me to stand away from him a bit.
All in all, yours was an excellent pic. Keep up the good work.

The DF holds its value very well. I have had one for about 5 years and love it. I caught a bargain on it on Ebay and bought a couple lenses later. Considering the bargain price I got it for, I can actually get more for it today than when I bought it.
I was using AI lenses I had for an FM2 before I got the AF lenses. Remember, the DF has a 'flip over' meter tab on the body's lens mount so you can use almost any Nikon F mount lens on it. The DF seems not to have been too popular among the younger set, but old film photogs like myself usually love the camera. I wouldn't let the 16 mp sensor hold me back. When you combine 16 mp with full frame sensor, you have a pretty good set up. Another complaint I hear about the camera is its lack of ability to do video. My philosophy is that if you want to do movies, get a video camera.
I think you would be happy with the camera.

Try to find a rubber band that fits snugly around the filter. Put it right next to the lens so you are exerting the energy on the threaded part of the filter and not the rotating part of the filter. A rubber band that is a little wider than normal works best. When you grip it to rotate the filter off, don't squeeze it too hard. Believe it or not, this can tend to distort the metal threaded ring on the filter, thus binding it tighter against the threads on the lens barrel. Wrap your hand around the lens barrel up near the point where the lens and filter connect. This can warm the barrel with your body heat and cause it to expand a little. When you start twisting on the filter, try to exert only enough pressure to keep the rubber band from slipping.

This has worked for me more than once. Filters really need to be taken off frequently and re-mounted to reduce this problem.

Remember, leaving the lens off increases your odds of getting dust on the sensor, unless you install the body cap. Even at that, any change of lens or body cap increases the chance of getting dirt on the sensor.

Doves do a similar thing. See attached video. I agree that it is marvelous to see the creative design displayed in the natural world. How could anyone think this came about by chance.

I got one of those calls a few years ago. The first thing I asked was, "If you are telling me there are bad things on my computer, you must already have access. How did you get that and why are you speaking in English that I can barely understand?" When he persisted, I told him I thought he was f.o.s. When he asked what that meant, I told him to figure it out. Maybe that is some of the 'bad stuff' I have on my computer. It is a BIG MISTAKE to be polite with these people.

Does anyone remember the old Laugh-in joke: Why did Kitty Wells not marry Conway Twitty? She didn't want to be called Kitty Twitty.
