Are you opening Picasa by right clicking on an image and choosing "Open in Picasa? "

I have a shortcut icon on my desktop and when i click on that it takes me to a screen where i can see all of my folder on the left side of the screen. and when i click on the folder i want, all the pictures show on the screen and then i double click on the picture i want to edit.

I have never imported photos from my camera to picasa. The only thing I have ever done is some basic editing. When I open a photo and it has a button saying "edit in picasa". But when I open that one photo, picasa downloads every other photo I have taken.
Then if I open a different photo, the same thing happens. So is this taking up any memory space on my hard drive?
If you double click on the photo you want to edit, the editing tools are shown on the upper left hand screen. I don't understand how pictures download when you do that

I found it to. Thanks.but that's only when downloading from Camera,RIGHT ?

I think if it is checked it will stop all duplicates. When you go into the program, it updates automatically, so thats importing also.

I always make notes when I learn of a new trick, but this one is eluding me.

Where is the "Exclude Duplicates" command in Picasa? I have looked at Folder management, tools, File etc. but can't find it.

Help please.

Its a checkbox on the left upper screen when you click on Import pictures etc

Click on -- exclude duplicates -- and that should correct your problem

You are right this is the photography section.
You are not the op but you act like you are the only one entitled to an opinion and that is rude and stupid.

I just got back from my beach walk and took 63 pictures.

BTW: the discussion is about the sx50 not your pet camera.

Don't turn it into something stupid.

Your the one turning it into something stupid by your comment. You are very sarcastic and you need to control that. I have both cameras and i expressed my opinion on the Nikon where as you made a comment on politics which had nothing to do with the cameras. Her camera broke and i suggested she take a look at the Nikon.

You sound like obummer, confused. Sorry I hope you are a good conservative.

Hey Jackinthebox, why would you say something stupid like that. This is a photography site, not a political site. You must have a lot of time on your hands, go out and take some fantastic pictures and enjoy life.

Hey budjordan1, That's great! How about posting a couple of pictures of the same subject with all the same settings, taken with each camera so we can see the improved Nicon image quality you're talking about. I'm not saying this to start an argument, I'd just like to see the difference. ..... Coot

Hey Coot, you know darn well you want to start an argument and i am not here for that. The only opinion that counts is mine. I never asked you for yours. I don't have to prove anything to you. Your opinion doesn't matter to me. I'm the one taking the pictures and if i am pleased with them, than thats what counts. Now, both cameras take excellent pictures, but the Nikon is sharper. Not everybody buys a Chevy, we are all different. Why can't you respect that?

Canon actually decreased the megapixels when they brought out the SX40 because it increased the image quality. MP rating isn't the only thing that determines image quality.

I would like to remind you that i have both cameras

Lets see:
Nikon has no Hot Shoe = deal breaker
Nikon has 1/2 speed burst = deal breaker
Nikon has 1600 ISO vs 6400 = deal breaker
Nikon is higher priced = Ultimate deal breaker when there are the other significant short-comings.

You forgot one Nikon 16mgp Better picture quality Canon 12 mgp.

Read the above comparison. The Canon comes out miles ahead of the Nikon.
I don't have to read anything, i can look at my pictures from both cameras and see the difference, no article is going to change my mind when i can see the pictures first hand. All i am saying is, my Nikon p600 takes a clearer, sharper picture than my Canon sx50.

No Raw.

So, the p600 took sharper pictures than the sx50, less doctoring up the pics and more time to take pics

I have a sx50 and i went out and bought a Nikon p600 with a 60x zoom and it really feels good in my hands. You might want to go put the Nikon p600 in your hands and see how it feels. Shame on Canon

I'm heading to Epcot. The question is do I want to take my Nikon with the 18-200 lens (heavy) or the 50mm lens (not quite as heavy)? Or just the pocket size Nikon (convenient)? Or the mid size Nikon (not as small as the point n shoot, but is manual)? It's the big flower show, and I like flowers. What would you take?

I would take my Canon
