What kind of reputation does Sigma have when it comes to the brand in general?
Im a newbie not only here but in the world of photography as well. I come here for several reasons, to learn from others, to enjoy some of the banter that takes place and to spend a little time with folks who enjoy the world of photography. Now to my point regarding how questions are handled. I ask questions in hopes that Ill get opinions from many of you and if someone wants to recommend a video or a website or YouTube its all good. Ive actually seen some pretty good stuff on YouTube. Its like a previous poster said you dont have to read every post or participate in every thread, if its not to your liking move on. The same can be said from a suggestion to check out a website or a YouTube video, check it out or ignore it. Please dont hold back information or a learning opportunity because someone else may not agree with your approach. Put it all out there and let the one who is asking choose what is best for him/her.
Im in my early sixties and I struggle with text messages and all the abbreviations and my time is important, at least to me, so when I see a post filled with that type of material I just ignore it rather than spend the time trying to decipher it. I chose to just move on but to others it may not be an issue. One of the things I enjoy about this particular forum is the various personalities and now Im rambling
Bottom line, if you know or know of something that you think may help me share it and dont worry about the presentation let me determine what process works best for me.JMHO LOL!
Am I making any sense? Every now and then I have brain freeze and this hasn't come to me at all today.
Joyfulee, thank you also. I don't know whether it is age or the meds I am on, but there are times when this old brain of mine just doesn't work very well.[/quote]
It is kind of an age thing JacLee. Were kind of like an old computer, you get so many files and so much in memory that it takes our brains search engine forever to go through all those files we have stored. Sometimes its just faster and simpler to ask the younger folks who have a little less clutter to filter though.
Is all or any of that statement true? Probably not but it sure makes me feel better when I have those occasional brain far*^s.
God Bless!
Heres the deal. My son came to me and said that they (my kids) had pooled their funds and wanted to buy me a new lens for my camera for Christmas. He asked what Id like and I couldnt come up with anything because Im happy with what I have. I thought maybe you all may know of something fun that I was unaware of so I thought Id ask for some input.
I do like the idea of adding a 2X converter but the only prime lens I have is the Micro 105mm. Can you use a converter on a zoom?
I hadn't even considered that but you've given me cause to ponder...hummm.
Im looking for some opinions regarding the purchase of a new lens. Ive got around $1,000.00 to spend on a new lens. Im a newbie and I dont really have a specific area of interest. I take pictures of my grandkids, wildlife, bugs, pets, landscapes and school events. I have a Nikon D90 and three lenses, a Micro 105mm a 18-105mm and a 70-300mm. If I were to add another lens what would you suggest I add?

Hi Jim,
I won't be able to join you but you mentioned recording these sessions. Will you be making them available so those of us who are interested but can't attend can take advantage of your expertise?
I travel a lot and am rarely home early enough to join you but if you record them and make them available I'd sure be interested in seeing them.

I think I would avoid that particular clerk in the future! If not the whole store...
Just check with your rather strange friends here on the hog. :)
Good advice and I'm listening.
I'm sure it was one of those bait and switch scams. I did call Nikon and told them what I was told and asked them the same thing I asked you guys, "is this true". Man, talk about being PO'd. I'm not at all certain Nikon is going to just let this slide. We'll see.
You guys are too much! A simple "not true" would have taken care of the question but instead you all turn on the creative juices. I've been laughing out loud for 10 minutes.
Thanks to all, you're all GREAT!
I was told that the Nikon SB-900 flash unit was designed for film cameras and that I should chooses something different for my D90. Any thoughts?
