I use Kenko extension tubes with Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VR lens and they have the electrical contacts built into them. I normally manual focus my lens because I find that I need adjust the zoom plus the focus ring to obtain sharp photo. I hope this helps, Arnold

I tried AF and M but can't get any combination to focus

Get tubes that support AF - they need the screws (for AF lenses) or the electrical contacts (for the AF-S).

The set I bought are made for Nikon and support AF.

I have some Kenko extension tubes that I was trying to use in conjunction with my Nikon 70-300mm lens and I can not get it to focus in any mode I try. I use a D90 camera. Any suggestions?
Thanks

If you can do a DIY fix, fine, but almost any P&S is not worth the repair cost and since the S3000 is about $70.00 it is absolutely not worth repairing.

What's a DIY?

You might want to check the buy/sell forum. There are always folks who are trying to move up into the higher end models and looking to sell what they have to help defray some of their costs. Just a thought.

I bought some silica gel in what's called "pillow paks" on line and put a cell phone in with them for a week turning it over every couple days. It has been working fine for three months. The pillow paks will keep anything from getting into the camera so you would be able to open it up as much as possible.

Gold standard are the X-Rite products. X-Rite i1 Display or the X-Rite color Munki. Others are OK and do a good job, but X-Rite seems to have the best stuff.

It better be the best at $500.00!

Thanks to all but it sounds like there's a lot more involved than what I has imagined. I think I'll just stick with having my B&W developed for me. I don't do a lot anyway but I still enjoy shooting with my old Minolta on occasion. I use my D90 probably 95% of the time.
Thanks again,
Pepper

Put it on the shelf. It's not worth the hassel & expense of using it. You can buy a 14 Mega Pixel camera for under $150 and do everything except large prints on your computer. If you want large prints go to STAPLES, it's not worth maintaining a large format printer unless your making money with it. When you can afford it upgrade to a Digital SLR.

What he said!

I just thought if it wasn't too expensive it might be fun to mess with.

I do B&W film and develop it myself then scan it into the computer. My estimated cost for development comes to $2 for a role of 120mm.

I have an old Minolta Maxxum 7000 that I still use for B&W mostly because I have an emotional attachment to that camera. Can you give me an idea of what kind of money it would take to set up a dark room just to do B&W and also what kind of learning curve one would have to deal with?

Thank you for the Darkroom thought but I'll stick with my computer LOL Too cheap and too lazy for that
Thanks,
Pepper

That last line about thank you for the darkroom thought... is not my quote but you've made it look as though it is by putting my name under it,,,not cool.

You’re a business person, figure out what you want to make an hour. Assume you’ll have 2000 hours over the course of the year to bill and spread your equipment and travel expenses over those hours and add the cost to your hourly rate. Figure what you’ll need for insurance, taxes and maintenance and any other incidentals total it up, divide by 2000 and add that to your rate. Don’t just start low thinking you can just raise your prices later it rarely works that way. Assume you’re worth your price and then go sell yourself. JMHO of course.
