Since we have nothing but clouds and rain, I hope you all get lots of new toys!

Same here, it's a little late but hope all "Hogsters" have a great Christmas Holiday season! - Stepping Beyond and I live 45 minutes from each other....usually my bad weather moves up to his "neck of the woods" - in short we both have had a lot of suckie weather for the past year.

Not too sure how hard you want to work to identify your "unknown"

I don't think you have enough stars in this picture but if you can build a star mask and then try to darken the sky to reveal more stars....then use astronomy net http://nova.astrometry.net/upload you may be able to platesolve it. Then with the dec and ra address......bring up your planetarium program and back it up to the date and time you took the pic - dial in the dec and ra address and you just may have a name for it. If you use Starry Nights or Sky Safari pro probably will have a name for it. Not sure about Stellarium or Cartes du Ciel.

....but the fun is in the trying!

The easier thing to do is to keep posting on different forums...someone smarter than most of us will nail it.

Were it me....I would remove those with flats and be sure to use a very extreme dither!

I still have an AVX that has been returned three times and is never used. What a lemon of a mount! Good luck with your search.

My advice is to make sure you can use EQMOD/EQASCOM ....my Atlas Pro mounts are awesome!

Same to you Ed. Hope you have all your files organized, so when you get free time you can still process.

Go Buckeyes!

I don’t I’m very disorganized but I’ll figure it out I guess! Go Clemson!

As I understand it, the factor still applies to your reflector.

Go to this site and enter your info - you will know exactly what your FOV will be

It's been a while since I visited the "hog"! I have been looking an recent posts and wow, there is some outstanding work going on. Cudos to the HOG astro group.

I have had precious few clear sky nights but when I have I have run two rigs.....what I don't have is time to process them.

I have been spending a lot of time running the FFMS observatory and planetarium - along with my sports photography business and time is something I have grown to treasure - when I get it.

All of that to say - HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE and clear skies to ALL!

Welcome to the wonderful world of astro imaging - and negative cash flow. They do go hand in hand!

Watch these two videos and you will have everything you need to prepare an image for final tweaking in PS.

If I have decent data, even I can't screw it up!

What is your F/stop? Are you using the 11 inch at F/10? Reducer? The ASI1600 just blows my mind how I can get by with 10, 30, 60, 120, and 180 exposures when I am in between F/7 and F/4 with sharp virtually noiseless images by doing what you are doing and running the gain up to 300 and I use and offset of 65 when I go that high.

It sure allows for a lot more data given the short nights. If I was using the Atik383L I would be shooting 5 plus minutes at F/7 to get data with more noise and less detail.

CMOS sensors are going to be around for a while methinks.

Now, that being said, great capture! I look forward to seeing your RGB when added.

John Risa sent me these settings after he had spent hours collecting data on the ASI1600MM-C

Gain 0 ->Offset 10
Gain 75 ->Offset 15
Gain 139 ->Offset 21 (Unity)
Gain 200 ->Offset 50
Gain 300 ->Offset 65

It is F/10....and I have shot at that aperture before. My son gave me my first two telescopes (Vixens) but my first purchase was the Celestron 8 inch SE F/10 but those images were equally flat and lacking detail. I have been looking at Celestron SCT's (all sizes 9.25 and up) images on Astrobin and can see that others are having the same results. I guess I will just need to figure out a better processing path to get the results I had hoped to get.

Obviously using the same workflow that I have been using with my widefield images does not work on the Edge......and when i do some masking and sharpening in PS - artifacts.

Back to the drawing board but .....

The fun is in the trying!
