When I shot film I used a vivitar 283. Remember those? You turned the knob to choose 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, full power. It was easy to use.

Then came digital flashes that I could never quite get the hang of. So much frustration especially when using more than one. So Going to a photoshoot I brought along studio lights where I found it a breeze to get the output correct.

Canon came to my rescue with the speedlite EL-1. It has all the whistles and bells you could possibly hope for, and with the price tag you shouldn’t expect anything less.

But what I LOVE about this speed light is that when I set it to manual I can turn the wheel to dial in the output. It is my new and improved version of the Vivitar 283. So simple to use.

Thank You Canon.

Glad you found your Speedlite to be so resourceful! If you use a modifier with the EL-1, an effective and simple one to use is the Lite-Scoop 3 modifier made by LiteGenius (litegenius.com). Will work great with the manual settings you mentioned you use.

And after buying my seventh DSLR, I think I can now honestly give my credit card a nice rest; but I know where you’re coming from.

I have all the cameras, lenses and accessories I’ll ever need, which will absolutely do everything I need them to do. So I guess in answer to your question, I’m not looking to purchase gear anytime soon. And if I positively need to purchase any type of gear, it will be a DSLR camera and not a mirrorless model; hope the D500 won’t be discontinued any time soon.

I've been a serious photographer for over 20 years (and using Photoshop for post processing for all of those years) and I used to get photography assignments by word of mouth before I retired. I used to work with the public in a State office where I helped people find employment--in the course of assisting them I would often mention that I was a photographer and give them my card and as a result I would often get a couple of photography jobs a month, if not from the clients themselves then from their friends or family members. Since I used to do this for a little extra money (I never charged anywhere close to the price of local professionals) I really took on assignments because I love photography as well as meeting new people. Also, I love the challenge of getting the best possible photos for clients and I would capture images of their events that were up to par with local professional photographers. Since I retired from my "day job" I no longer have the opportunity to meet with people as I did before so I no longer have access to the the free advertising that I once had. I am now prepared to pay for advertising so that I can get back into semi professional photography but I'm wondering where the best place to start might be. (I will still charge very low prices for my work since money is not my main goal--I have a comfortable State pension and SS that I live on) I would appreciate any advice that any of you may offer.

Please provide more details. How are they giving you the runaround? Not like B&H Photo to do something like that!

I’m going to help you out and make this decision the easiest ever, seeing as how you’re having a hard time with it. Get the Brother MFC-L2750DW. It’s a very compact and sturdy all-in-one (multi-function) laser machine that prints, copies, scans and faxes. I have it in my home office and it performs exceptionally well. It has wireless and ethernet interfaces, and you can print from your mobil device. Get more information about this unit by visiting the Brother website at ... http://brother.com.

Same here, no thanks! Hard to wrap my head around a $6,500 camera. What on earth makes this camera worth that much?

Thanks for sharing your experience. Within the last two years I purchased various Godox flash units and accessories, and will someday purchase as well the Sekonic light meter. If I experience the same issue that you did, I’ll know how to resolve it.

Models come and models go. When a model under sales or is being phased out, camera companies reduce the price. Looks like a very good deal, wish Nikon had a similar sale.

Wish the Canon 5D Mark IV was reduced in price! I’d love to have that camera, even though I’ve got all Nikon gear. It’s been $2,499 for a long time now.

I'm looking to purchase a full frame camera to compliment my D500. I've been reading for a month or so. I can't make up my mind. Can or would owners of these cameras give me your( I know here we go ) opinion on why you like or dislike your D850 or and D810 please? I have lenses and all the accouterments. Just trying to get a feel for both from long term users.
Thanks Bob

Whichever one you decide to get, you’ll definitely save a few hundred dollars if you can wait for the holiday specials that will soon be kicking in. When I purchased my D810 four years ago from Best Buy during the Christmas season, it was marked down $500; definitely made me fell better about my purchase.

Admit it. You will buy another camera. What will it be?

It may be an extra/backup, or maybe you want a small compact camera for travel. Of course, you could be planning to update and replace your Main Shooter. I have my D750, Sony a6000, and Fuji X-T30, in addition so some older cameras, so I'm all set. But what about you?

The next camera I would like to buy doesn’t exist yet, so let’s just call it the D400. It would be identical to the D500 model, with one exception, no video/movie components or features in it whatsoever; would be nice if it also had two SD card slots and the next generation Expeed processor. Yes I know the Nikon Df is out there, but I don’t particularly care for that retro look.

I own several Nikon DSLR bodies, and have not as yet used any of the video features. Would like to see Nikon come out with a model that forgoes all of that, but I know that in this era it will never happen.
