That's correct --- some rangers do live there year round. I'm heading to the Sierras on the 19th and the
first two days will visit Yosemite and then Lee Vining to photograph the Sierra Crest and may go to Bodie
this trip.

On my last two trips to the area I didn't go out there and wished I had.

Currently Tioga Pass is closed, they hope to have it done soon. The good news is all that snow melt has to go somewhere, namely Yosemite Valley and Falls. Should be spectacular views and Photo ops. Looking forward to seeing some of your photographs.

When I went there many years ago, the 13 miles of road from Hwy 395 to Bodie was so rough I thought I was driving on railroad ties.

Not that much better now, guess they want to keep it real?

PS: Your pictures are stunning--Looks like a photographer's paradise.

You are right and I was lucky that there wasn't that many people there. Love the play on words, made me smile.

Bodie is located in NE California in Mono County. Just off Hwy 395 SE 75mi SE of Lake Tahoe. Just a bit further down the road is Mono Lake, June Lake and Mammoth Lakes or if you prefer, hang a right just past Mono Lake and take the Tioga Pass and head up then down to Yosemite National Park(my choice). Again, everyone Thank You So Much.

sazfoto, you have shared some wonderful photos with us of an amazing place to photograph. I love your creative compositions very much. Bodie should be on every photographer's bucket list. I do have one comment about no one living there.........I was told that there are a couple of homes there that are actually occupied by the rangers.

You may be right? If I remember right there is a ranger station down the road to the left of the town somewhere around the picnic area. Good or bad I respect criticism and I hope someone can learn from your remarks. I do enjoy going to off the grid places like Bodie. Thank you so much.

Thank you all and for those who don't know this is the original quote, it was thought that Bodie was worse than hell. “Goodbye God, I am going to Bodie,” was a statement made by a ten-year old in her journal when her family took her to Bodie during its glory days as a gold rush town.

As they say, nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. And I guess no one does.
