I’ve travelled to over 64 countries during half of those I used a 28-300 Nikon (Canon has that one too) and never wanted for another lens, but about 1% of the time. Never having to change lens is nice. I have a small bridge camera for dinner and after unless something requires the D810.... good luck and take lots of photos...

(Sorry ‘bout the duplicate. Couldn't figure how to delete this second post....) It seems to be the best at reducing NOISE from RAW image files, but I don’t use it on JPEG image files because it is as good as many of the othe noise reducers. But on RAW images it is the best... I wish they’d make it as a plug-in for Photoshop soon...

How is a Canon lens on a Lumix camera/body? Just a thought!

To do HDR properly I thought and use Aperture Priority to keep the FOF the same for all the images per HDR shots....

I used Blurb for one photo book and they were good, but lacked one feature that my weird personality thought it needed...

Shutterfly is one of the oldest doing the photo books. But after killing MyPublisher, which had all the features and book quality, I tried Sutterfly and they messed with the images I placed in their photo book software, they screwed up my travel book of many many hours I put into this book. The quality customer service is good, but they do try to improve all your photos in a submitted/purchased photo book. I prepare my photos in any photo book to make sure they go to their presses without changing any of the photo characteristics.... For the mass market they are probably pretty good. The construction of the photo books is as good as any of the other printers I've tried. If you don't produce print quality photos, say more the snapshot type of picture taker, then Shutterfly is your best place to go.... As a retired freelance photographer, I have my ways of doing things and whenever I produce a photograph for others to look at, they must see the best I can do... This was to be an helpful note for those who haven't experienced any photo book printers, not to say anybodies company is better than an others, but some pre-press your worsk differently and you should know. If you have any other questions please forward them to my email at: stuparr@stusplace.com and we can talk/type more on the subject.... (I probably to 4 to 6 photo coffe table books each year. Just saying that I do have some experience at this!)

If you are an excellent print and want to get the best colors, you should be aware that unless you switch OFF the global parameter that automatic color balance all your book images and another one you must cancel on each photo you place in their books. They had to reprint my first book with them and still messed up the coffee table type photo book I had them print. Since MyPulisher was killed by Shuterfly, I have gone thru Shutterfly and on to MixBook.com and am pleased with the way they handle my travel photo books. Just be ware of what the software you are using does to your photos and ask if there will be any changes made by the company's printing process. Shutterfly is good for novice photogs that don't know how to calibrate their monitors and correct exposures... I always ask the Printer what their lines per inch is on their printering presses. just double the Lines per inch and that would be the correct DPI for your book photos. That allows me to send them the proper PPI and sized images for a much better photo book.

My walk-around in country is the Nikon 24-70 2.8, but overseas I take my Nikon 28-300 f3.5-5.6 and miss very few photo ops. The longer lens is nice when you are on tour as you can reach out for shot you don’t have time or means to get to it.

Just don’t by off brand cards.... San Disk or Lexor only........ the chance of a bad card if formatted in his cameta is as possible as him dropping his Camera overboard. I prefer San Disk personally...
Just a last minute thought... Stu

Jeff, we don’t know what kind of camera he is using. If he had your collection of shooters I would have advised differently, but if he had your cameras he would not be asking the question as he would have known. For most shooters your approach an be way too much. With 2 SD or CF cards he’ll be just fine. However I shoot somewhat like you and sometimes will take a backup device and more mem cards than I need. They are light weight and take up very little suitcase room.... Guess I have said about more than necessary. I think he needs a simple answer and that is what I gave.... have a good day and may your next shoot be great..... Stu

I can't believe all this discussion that is not pertaining to your question. If you shot JPEG photo file format you can probably get by with just one 32 GB media card (SD or Compact type memory cards). If you are shooting RAW format I'd surely take 2 - 32GB memory cards. It is that simple....!

Good luck and have a fun picture filled trip. Take many photos....

I use my Nikon 28-300mm as my travel lens on a D810 and it is tack sharp. The barreling and other defects of lenses are easily fix in P/S when necessary. I’m thinking of taking my 24-70 f2.8 unless I need the long shots like animals in Africa, but if I teturn i’ll buy the Tamron 150-600mm and die a happy man!! Just a thought....

I would choose the 14 - 105mm as some of his sculptures you will need the reach and 24mm is wide enough for those you can get closer too.
