Nice shots. For the heck of it, just prior to leaving on a 6+ week tour of the SoWest, I bought a Crystal Ball. I got the same advice from KayakingUSA about his holder, but I didn't have the time to craft one (although I think it's a great idea). Instead, I bought a small black suction cup that screws onto a tripod & headed off. KayakingUSA suggested it might interfere with the photos (which it did a bit although cropping addressed that) ... but the worst thing was after someone bumped my tripod at the Grand Canyon ... was watching that ball (in slow motion) tip off the tripod ... smack on the edge of the canyon (with a few splinters of glass flying off) ... then bouncing down to a ledge about 20 yards below (with more splinters of glass reflecting in the bright morning sun) ... before it disappeared over the edge & down into the canyon!!!!
Nice shots. For the heck of it, just prior to lea... (show quote)

Sorry to hear about your mishap. I still have to be extra careful with mine but that is the case with all equipment. Tripods are dangerous. Hope you got some good pics before the plunge.

Very nice captures!
I'm slightly lazy. I would mount the crystal ball on a lucite holder and then on top of a tripod.
Happy shooting!

Thanks for looking. We all have a little lazy streak. This is what I use. The ball sits on the cut off water bottle.

My wife and I went to the mountains in North Carolina for our 50th Anniversary. I took my crystal ball up to the Blue Ridge Parkway to take some pictures of the wildflowers. This is just a sample of what I captured. Hope you enjoy.

Oh gosh! Good case for not deleting files until you can REALLY review them. That whole face is replicated in the bark, even the ear.

If I had known what I had I would have just taken that deer instead of taking both of them. The deer couldn't have lined up with the bark image any better.

I took this picture several years ago and did not know how odd it was until I downloaded it. It is not a good picture, just special. I took the color out to better show what is special about the picture. Look at the head of the deer on the left. Now zoom in on that deer. The only part of her head that is showing is one eye and one ear. The rest of the face is markings on the tree that she is hiding behind. Can you see what I am talking about?

Thanks.....I never have any luck holding mine...I have to find something to sit it on! Your pics are great!

This is what I made to hold my camera and ball. This is from a previous post of mine from January.

Is 1 a beaver or otter? And what kind of bird is 6? Pretty good dar it seems to me!

I think the first one is actually a Muskrat going by it's size. I did not get a look at it's tail and he was so wet that you could not see his facial features very well. The 6th one is an Osprey flying into her nest. Thanks for looking and your comments.

I had a bad day shooting birds on Assateague Is. VA yesterday. Just didn’t get anyting I liked. Your shots reminded me of why I try. A bad day photographing yesterday was better than my day in Court today, dealing with a speeding ticket I got in Chincoteague the last time down there. Oh well, into each life some rain must fall...still your pictures made me feel a bit better. Thanks for sharin’em.

We all have bad days, we just share the good days. I always strive for the unusual shots and get lucky once on awhile. Thanks for looking.

This is a great series for me. Nearly two years ago I had a car accident and broke one hip and the other ankle. While I can walk a trip to the back of Wally World is about my limit! I love the water and taking nature photography. This is my solution!

I enjoy sitting down to take pictures over walking any day. Hope it works out good for you. Your subject matter will be endless.

I think that Kayaking is one of the best ways to get in close to the marshes and waterways where the action really is , but I never use my good camera on those voyages as I am a Big Chicken about risking them for the sake of a few pictures where water is a concern.

You had a great day and got good results........more please.
Thanks

I understand the concern about the camera but that is the reason I bought the camera in the first place. My goal is to get the pictures that no one else gets. Birds in their natural habitat are more interesting to photograph than those in captivity. I do worry about the camera but not to the extent of not using it for the reason I bought it. Thanks for looking and your comments.
