My better half would like to get a better camera than she has which is a cannon point and shoot. Her budget is $500 or less
and would like something that will take sharp pictures. Something like my D750 is just too heavy and expensive. A simple
walk around lens would work. She wants to be able to go with me when I go out shooting. Probably be shooting landscapes and
nature stuff and possibly some of the quilts she has made.

I am getting into birding and would appreciate some comments/advice. I currently have the Nikon 80-400mm 4.5-5.6D lens but considering the new Tamron 150-600mm G2 5-6.3. If I use a 1.4 teleconverter on the Nikon I can get 560 on the reach, this would be the most cost effective approach but I would lose a stop. I was also wondering if 560 or 600 is enough for most birding? I also was thinking of the Tamron with aq 1.4 teleconverter which would put me out to 840mm. Any comments on auto-focus or other issues with any of these configurations?
I'm using the D750 camera.

Hi again, I got some lore information from the better half and it looks like they are talking printing. It seems odd as they request the pictures to be in jpg format. Here is what they sent her, not sure if the formatting will work here so I'll try to attach a PDF too. I think I'll just stick to birds and landscapes.

Hi all, the better half asked me to take some shots of her quilt to be sent in for a contest. One of the requirements were that the pictures submitted be 1200 dpi. I am shooting with a Nikon D750 and checked the manual and cannot find where there is a setting for this, they come out as 300dpi. Can someone please enlighten me why they might require this 1200dpi and how to achieve it? Is there a camera setting I am missing or is this done in post?

I've been lurking for some time and decided to say hi to all. I am retired and live in Scottsdale Arizona. I grew up in Phoenix and Chandler Arizona but went overseas for a year in Viet Nam. I returned and spent time back here until I went to California to work in the aerospace industry. I retired from Lockheed Martin Space Systems as a Senior Test engineer after working on numerous satellites that are looking over us as I type this. Cheers to all, I am looking forward to learning from the group.
