[quote=Reinaldokool]Several questions:
Yes. If you have an image on your computer, it is just a bunch of 1s and 0s as far as the computer is concerned. It doesn't matter what it looks like in your software. Therefore, copying the file to a flashdrive is absolutely fine. And the reverse is also true when you copy the result to another computer.

If your computer person reinstalled Windows XP, he made a very bad mistake. Windows XP is no longer supported by any of the main software companies. Moreover, it is very vulnerable to viruses, worms, trojan horses and other malware. No one should be using Windows XP anymore.

Many thanks for your response and information. My computer guy did not reinstall Windows XP on the new computer. It is in another box nearby and not connected to the internet. I tether to that. I have made numerous calls to Canon and Ricoh. Canon says I need to buy a new camera. No help.

For the most part, your question was answered. If I were to go shopping for a thumb drive today, I'd want a Sandisk 64Gb, USB 3. Prices vary, and there are worthwhile alternatives. Just ensure you get USB 3, versus USB 2.

Bruce, thanks for your advice :)

Do you really need to use the camera tether? I never know how to do that. I imagine since your cameras are pretty old the tethering must be quite slow. If you just need to transfer images from camera to computer then it's easier just remove the memory card and use a card read to transfer all the image files.

Yes, tethering allows me to review the images as I take them and adjust exposures accordingly from the computer. It is very convenient and faster.

You can even use your card reader and your memory card to do this.

You might want to consider downloading the Codec (and possibly the latest firmware) from Canon for your 10D - https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/supplies-accessories/service-plans-carepaks-software-books/canon-raw-codec-software

And the camera firmware update from Ricoh - http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/support/digital/gr2_s.html

Thank you, Gene, Canon told me I needed to buy a new camera! Windows 10 doesn't recognize drivers for older cameras at this point. There are no updates for the GR only the GRII.

Is it possible to use a flash drive to transfer RAW images from one computer to another, and if so is there loss? Also what would be the best flash drive to use? My cameras are not recognized by my Windows 10 computer so my computer person has reinstalled my Windows XP as a partner to do Canon 10D tethered shooting and choose images to import from my Ricoh GR. Many thanks for your answers : )

I hope you find a solution to your problem, but since this is a business it may be time to write off your 10D and simply upgrade as a business expense. My wife deals in antique jewelry, so we manage these things as business expenses, not technology issues.

Yes, Peter, this is definitely in the back of my mind : )

Edward Weston is recognized as one of the most influential of American photographers. He worked with an expansive set of subjects over his 40-year career. Yet some of his most famous images are from his series of single green peppers. Many thanks for for the links to this remarkable photographer's life and work.

You can run a program called virtual box and use it to install win XP as a virtual machine allowing your computer to tether with the camera.

Thank you! I will check this out : )

Are you looking to tether your camera for the purposes of downloading the photos or doing remote control of the camera? Like others have said, moving photos by putting the cameras memory card into the PC's reader would be an easy fix. Another thought would be to use a WiFi SD card like this: https://www.amazon.com/Eyefi-Class-90-day-Service-Mobi-16/dp/B00CRFK4FC

I tether my camera to do multiple product shots of the jewelry that I make and sell on Etsy. I do metalsmithing, etc. I need to control the camera from the computer. It is a HUGE time saver and common practice. I will have to check into the WiFi SD card. Thanks for the suggestion : )

Any success?

Allen, thanks for asking. My "guru", Don Shrader, worked for 1 1/2 hours doing many different things including following your directives, which I had printed out, but could not tether my 10D or get the computer to "open" my Ricoh GR. Now he is going to do more research and so will I. Such a mystery!!!
