My wife had both shoulders done (one a reversal) and has no problem once the healing process was complete.

Joint replacement has come a long way so I don't think you need to worry. Do the rehab as you're told; don't slake off. And have it done by a surgeon who does lots and lots of shoulder replacements. Teaching hospitals are the best since they have the latest techniques and perform plenty of operations.

Good luck.

Just plain funny. We need to relearn not to read some political message into everything.

Gilkar, I too am going through the same process although my mother didn't so I have her slides to go through as well. I will end up with a similar number of slide trays so if anybody is interested, I'll give them away for the shipping cost. I also have a Kodak projector with spare bulbs. I bought a bunch of bulbs just before Kodak stopped making the projector. I bought a Nikon 35mm slide scanner just before they stopped making them. It still works but puts out a 64MB file for each slide!! Good thing storage space is cheap. John

Yeah, good luck w/ Jersey!! (Sorry.) Not happening!! Any way, nice shots of AL highways. I've got a bunch of shots of the same emptiness. AL is a big place and most enjoyable.

Going digital was a right choice I made years ago. When my wife and I built our new house in Northern Va in '91-'92 I had a darkroom put in in the basement. Then never used it as a darkroom--it's now storage. The world went digital!!! and so did I. I was determined not to go digital until the sensors got small enough and with enough pixels to simulate 35mm slides. Well, it happened sooner than I thought. I bought a Nikon scanner, then a digital Pentax so now all is good!!!

I shot HS Ektachrome for years and still have most of the slides. I've scanned the slides that I really like so I have them in digital form. I got a Nikon 5000 scanner which created a 64MB file. Since disk space has gotten really cheap, it's not a big deal anymore. Sorting all the files is the biggest problem.

I didn't bother to read all of the responses to your question but my bottom line is it serves to protect the front surface of you lens which I assume if you're in this forum are expensive. All the other comments are BS as far as I'm concerned. The UV filter really doesn't absorb any more UV that ordinary glass. Look up the spectral absorption of plate glass and you'll have the answer. If you buy plastic lenses (that's more of a joke for the folks who contribute to this forum), it'll help absorb the UV that get's through plastic.

And you'd better not think about picking it up!!!
Nice series. I've got a series of pictures of an owl sitting in a tree in our back yard that I've been meaning to post. I'll get around to it.

All,

I've used Pentax since junior high school (early '60's) since I couldn't afford Nikon and Cannon didn't really exist at that point. It's still the best bargain and highest quality. I really don't think you can beat it. I've got a bunch of aftermarket secondary lenses but the mainstay is still Pentax.

Very nice. One of our favorite places to go. We're very close to the northern end of the Shenandoah Valley. We see the mountains out the kitchen window.

This whole discussion about UV is missing the point. Ultra-violet RADIATION (not light; light is what the eyeball sees. We don't see UV.) Glass absorbs almost all UV radiation so it never hits the focal plane or the film. Look up some optical absorption data on UV and see what gets to the focal plane. Not much.

I have found that OEM lenses perform better than after market lenses. Image quality is better, focus time is faster, etc. Just my subjective opinion.

I'll add another two cents worth--I upgraded my camera when the sensor size (# of pixels) goes up significantly--like 30-50%. That is the deciding factor for me because that is the most significant contributor to image quality. All the rest is bells and whistles. The other factor is lens interchangeability. If you shift manufacturers, the lens mounts change so you can throw all the old lenses away. Not an economical thing to do and lenses (image quality) don't change that much over time.

No! Buy something inexpensive that you can afford and experiment with it. See if it's something you want to invest more money in and then do that if it seems to fit your fancy. These days, good cameras are relatively cheap.
