That is what it was born to do. I really didn't keep up with it, but I remembered admiring it.

Nicely done! That's exactly what I'm talking about.

I think by using the refine edge tool in PS when there are subjects with hair an such, the OP's method should be a bit easier. I have never tried any of the Topaz software, but I am thinking about it. Thanks for posting this.

Nice shots. I saw and photographed that engine about 3 years ago when it was at the O. Winston Link Museum in Roanoke, Va. That was a fun experience.

I believe that "superiority" is totally subjective. In some ways Nikon beats Canon. In other ways, Canon beats Nikon, and in some ways, Pentax beats them both. There is no one brand that reigns supreme.
I think the Big 2 are the Big 2 for a reason. However, I also think Pentax and others are overlooked by most people due to the reasons pointed out all through this thread. For some, the lesser known brands may be a better choice. The information in this thread may help a newby to decide the often asked question of which camera to buy. For me the best camera is the Canon 70D, but only because that is the one I have. If you love the one you have, it is the best for you.

the statment "Really are superior" is a bit of a stretch. Pro's require more than pixels, no one can match the Nikon and Canon "SYSTEMS".

I was not disparaging Pentax or any other brand. I just wondered if reliability was an issue. Apparently, the answer is a definite NO. Thanks,

Dave

[quote=Nosaj]This a is pure nonsense.
I've seen post after post on UHH about people asking for help with a camera problem. About 99.99% of all those problems concern either a Nikon or Canon DSLR!! How reliable is that?

Thanks again to all who have contributed. I kind of thought the big marketing machines of Canon & Nikon had a lot to do with it. As Sharpshooter and others pointed out, it is also about the total available compatible lenses and other parts of their systems that set the big 2 apart from the rest. These factors, plus their reputations of extraordinary customer service are the answer. It is however, refreshing to know that Pentax is not just a cheaper, lower quality option, but truly a great product that has some chalenges that are hard to compete with for a market share.
I think Olympus, Sony and others are probably just as good, based on the photos and comments I've seen here on UHH. I guess the bottom line is the very best camera for you is the one that fits your hands, your needs, style, and budget. Maybe this thread will end the tired Canon vs. Nikon type debates that appear here almost daily. Probably not! LOL

Thanks to all for your comments. I guess it does all boil down to advertising. Had I known then what I know now, perhaps I would have started out as a Pentax, or maybe even a Sony shooter. However, I am very happy with what I have, so no regrets here.

Thanks for your reply. I am still surprised that more pros don't use Pentax if they really are superior. I am wondering if there may be reliability issues or something else I am not aware of.

I am not looking to start a discussion like "Canon vs. Nikon" again. I am a Canon shooter and am not interested in changing brands myself, or in debating anything. I merely trying to learn something for my own info and possibly to help others that are just starting out.
That said, I recently noticed how much less expensive Pentax seems to be for cameras that seem to be as good or better than Nikons and Canons that are more expensive, yet the Pentax seems to have better specs. For example, The K-3 is less expensive than the Canon 70D, (which I own and love), yet the specs seem to be better on the Pentax and some of the Nikons. I also am under the impression that Pentax lenses do not have IS or VR because it is built into the body of the camera, making lenses cheaper, but presumably just as good as their competitors. However it seems that Pentax, at least on this forum, lags far behind in popularity, so I am wondering why. Is there something I am missing, or am I just wrong?

Thanks for posting that. I shoot and play baseball in a 35+ adult league. I am always looking to improve my technique, (in baseball as well as photography).
