I quit taking family pictures because of the unrealistic expectations that go along with it. I would get home and in less than 2 hours the harrassment of wanting copies of everything before I even get the raw files downloaded. Then, no one really appreciates all of the efforts, its seems like an iphone snapshot means more than a good quality photo

Very sharp and well done. It looks to be Chromatic aberration. I did a quick fix with CS6 using the clone tool and the brush tool. will post then delete if you like.

Thanks, I appreciate the fix!

It looks like chromatic Aberration/color fringing to me. Lens correction in Lightroom is one way to try to get rid of it if your lens is listed.

Tamron 150-600 isnt listed :(

I am trying to get this photo ready to print, and I seem to have a blue outline around the white head feathers. Can anyone help me identify what is causing this, and how would I get rid of it?

Thanks

Sonny, I dont do time lapse, but for my night shots, I make it a habit that if I plug in the intervalometer I always let it do all the work with the camera in bulb. My camera has an intervalometer built in, but I always use external to control everything

You will be fine. I have been to Yellowstone the past two winters, and we went into the park on snowmobiles for the entire day each day. I did nothing special except keep my camera batteries in my vest pockets to warm them. I actually found it much easier staying out in the cold with my camera as I did not have to fight condensation. If you worry about battery life use a battery grip. I used one, and while running the GPS on my camera, I did not have to swap batteries at all during the day. Its best to leave you camera in the trunk of your car at night (this will avoid condensation issues), and bring the batteries and memory cards inside with you.

Not sure about the windchill temps but it was 10-15 degrees during the day, plus windchill from the sled running down the road both years I was there.

As far as gloves and such, I had a thin pair of liners I wore under my heavy gloves, and when it came time to snap some photographs, I just pulled of my heavy gloves and my glove liners did a nice job. I used a Mountainsmith lumbar pack (worn backwards) to carry my camera and spare lenses in while running down roads on the snowmobile.

Dont forget to adjust your exposure compensation up one stop to compensate for the snow. I will be headed back out in Feb....Are you going to Gardiner, West Yellowstone, or Jackson Hole entrance?

Move to California.
No oil problems, and humming birds the year round.
That would be my better idea.

I hope you enjoy your Nest Gimbal Head as much as I do mine! ;)

Couldn't stand the politics :)! Same as Colorado, loved it when I used to live there, but not with the California 2.0 politics. Besides, not very many bald eagles in Cali!

I have shipped several of these heads to Alaska and before doing so I replace the damping fluid with a lower viscosity fluid. The only downside is that it can tend to seep some of the fluid out if used at a different high temperature location. This happened to a customers of mine from Denali Park who used his in Florida on vacation..

that would probably happen to me here are home. I think I am going to try the heat pad option first, unless anyone has a better idea.

Thanks!

I have the Nest gimbal head (Thanks MT), and noticed the other morning that with the lower temperatures the movement was starting to stiffen up. Since this gimbal is fluid filled, is there any way to get this loosened up a little for cold weather use?

Thanks

I don't usually run out and grab updates just because there is an update. Currently, I have my camera exactly how I want it, getting sharp photos and no issues. I don't think I will be updating unless I encounter an issue or will get a needed feature

I can't get the hang of photographing people - Its just me.

I make it a habit of not photographing anything that could complain that "That picture makes my butt look big"

Its just me, but I dont feel comfortable directing all the posing and such. I do find entertainment in reading about other people who have done weddings. Some of the stories are very entertaining as long as its someone else and not me!

I usually shoot with both cards installed, but I prefer to write to the SD card.

Nice article, I will give that a try.

I normally shoot on the fast (10fps) frame rate due to doing mostly bird photography, which after a few seconds will slow down while writing the buffer full of raw files to the memory cards. The other day, I was shooting in the quiet mode (5 fps), and noticed that the buffer didnt seem to fill up when shooting raw. My question is has anyone played with configuring a different frame rate (between 5 and 10fps) to find out how fast you can shoot raw without dealing with the pauses while the camera empties the buffer?

Thanks
