I like it made by Patsy's on First Ave at 117 Street. An alternative is John's of Bleecker Street. But if I'm just looking for a slice I like Sal & Carmine's on Broadway at 102 Street although I haven't been there in a few years!

My setup goes back many years to Time-Warner, so I'm not sure where the router and modem came from. I know that I had to buy an additional modem to use for the phone because the Internet router wouldn't work for the phone. The alternative was to pay T-W a monthly charge for their modem. I know that I bought the router I'm currently using.

If your modem dates back to the Time Warner era that could be part of your problem. My current Spectrum modem, which handles my phone, is at least twice the size of my previous Spectrum Modem, so there must be a lot packed in there that is new!

I have an Archer TP-Link AX-55 and have no problems. I tried an Asus Blue Cave (I think that was the name) a few years ago and it was nothing but trouble! I also established a wired LAN over the electrical wiring throughout our apartment so computers and TV can plug in. Phones and iPads are still using WiFi. Here are Wirecutters latest recommendations.

My mother, born in Scotland, had a few that you never hear anymore. Here are two I can think of:

1. In for a penny, in for a pound.

Meaning: When you make a commitment you have to see it through to the end.

2. Put a beggar on horseback and he'll ride to town.

Meaning: A moocher will take the maximum advantage of your generosity.

You might want to consider not saving them as only JPEGs. If you think that someone in the family, long after you are gone, might want to work with your scans and has expert software to use, then you should save copies as DNG files. I have an Epson 700 and a Canon 4000US. The Canon is a slide/film strip scanner and does a much superior job to a flat scanner. I use Vuescan software which allows me, in one scan, to save an image as both DNG and JPEG files with the same file name. I am currently trying to archive family photos from as many in the family who will lend me what their parents saved. I make a DNG copy of everything!

I know a lot of people today recommend using a camera or even a phone to copy photos, because the resolution is high, but it makes no sense to me since a scanner is designed to scan, and has dedicated software to get the most out of it without having to use a special stand to keep the image flat, special lights to assure proper white balance and even lighting, and special techniques to avoid reflections and flare.

I always scan images from film or print to a TIFF file, whether for restoration or just analog to digital conversion.

I used to scan to TIFF for archival purposes but now Vuescan offers the ability to scan to DNG.

My first pizza was in 1947! I was 5 years old. My father would take us to Andy's in Long Island City across the street from the 108th Precinct. Now the pizza in NYC is not as good as it once was with a couple of exceptions. We go to Patsy's on 1st Ave and 117 Street. It's the original Patsy's and not the same as the franchise Patsy's you see all over Manhattan. This place still makes a pizza that tastes like the ones I remember from my childhood. John's of Bleecker Street is good also but I prefer Patsy's.

I'm sure these are all fine places but as Gordon Jenkins wrote:

They haven't got the skyline after dark

Public transportation is the most effective way to travel
The OP asked about photo tours, I wish that I knew of one
Try to take a round trip on the SI ferry and on the way back to Manhattan you will get views that take your breath away.
Keep your camera in a bag when on the subway, stay alert, and enjoy your visit.
Please do not listen to the negative comments that some of our members have.
You know what they say about opinions, we all have them and they all stink.

You're right about the Staten Island Ferry. I ride it maybe once a year just for fun. In the 1950s whenever we had visiting relatives in town my father would take them on a SI Ferry ride. He would also take them on the FDR drive uptown to Dykman St, across to the West Side Highway and down the Hudson River, around the Battery and back up the FDR Drive to the Queensborough Bridge.

We gave up our cars since living in Manhattan so I use the buses and subways almost every day.

Right you are, but it is useless to argue with those who restrict their news intake and analysis to Fox News. In fact, crime is “statistically” up in NYC over the past year, but what is not mentioned on that network is that, one, violent crime is way down and two, while total reported crime in NYC may be up from recent years, NYC is still one of the safest big urban areas in the country. But parsing the statistics to point out to its core audience that NYC remains a comparatively safe city is not in Fox’s best interest. Portraying NYC as a violent hell hole is what brings its audience to near orgasm.

All major urban areas (in the US and elsewhere) have crime. Shall we just stay home and quake in fear or continue to enjoy travel while taking reasonable precautions ?
Right you are, but it is useless to argue with tho... (show quote)

Right. Violent crime is up in 2022 compared to 2021, but in 2021 NYC was essentially a ghost town. The 2021 statistics were unusually low because of COVID.

YES & NO.

Yes, it is always on the news and no it is the lowest in decades.

News reports are not an indicator of crime statistics.
