Thank you
I know, screen resolution of the game computers is 1920x1280 and some can send out 4K. This is what I want to find = which one is that way = cheaper than the one with 4k screen. I would say today that the logic is : 4K to external monitor goes thru HDMI 2 port > HDMI ports are on computers having NVIDIA graphic cards.
Am I wrong? Miro

OK, you all convinced me >
1. I do have a 4K monitor, I need a laptop !!! I needed an advice what to look for . Am I stubborn, am I stupid? But I got confused.
Each person (which has the knowledge), is telling me something slightly different.

2. When I put all the information and possible hick-ups, I see, I just need to buy a game laptop (to be on safe side) -> it has a graphic card capable to deliver high resolution (even for the movie which I do not need) . I know , there are other options ...for example many salesmen tells me that today's laptops ALL can send out hi-res PICTURES even thru the HDMI 1.4.

3. The problem is that there is difficult to believe to sales people ... some of them do not understand, most of them do not know. The repair people understand, but they want to sell you what they have->mostly desk tops + monitors/TV. And I am getting tired of them talking to impress me about their abilities. I do not need any water cooled graphic card. And they just do not listen, that I want to see PICTURES ONLY on the monitor I already have.

So thank you very much for your effort and time. Miro

Thanks for the input. I already have an LG 27" 4K monitor ...which I like...so far.
nNow I am trying to match it with the (cheapest) computer able to deliver a STILL PICTURE at 4K parameters = (close to 4000x 6000 ).
My goal is to be able to zoom in and look at picture detais w/o pixelation.
I had a 4K gaming computer , but my pictures were not sharp ...but that (Lenovo) computer had some other problems.

Thanks again Miro

OK , thank you all for the input . I should not have the issue with cables - 2 HDMI cables came with a monitor.
I also tested 4K Lenovo gaming computer. It ended wrong way - I sent my camera pictures , but they were not the sharpest ...as I found . Also the Samsung 1920 x 1080 did not help ...I think the graphics card was not 4k strong. I do not need a card for video...just for 6000x4000 resolution still pictures.
After my dissatisfaction with gaming Lenovo laptop (it had some other problems - windows key did not work, it was overheating and the software brains tweeked the Windows 10),
I will try to find a lower grade Dell with a good graphic card .

I am sorry. I somehow do not do the right English. You all thought about video .......NO.... I will do the still pictures ONLY .
The question boils down to : Does the new 1920 x 1080 laptop deliver 4K quality PICTURE to 4K monitor thru the regular HDMI cable? OR do I really have to have 4K laptop (gaming graphic card)?

Sorry & thank you. M

Yes, many people gave me advice .....on video. BUT I do not intend to do any video. So I would be happy with any lover=cheaper laptop feeding my 4K monitor. M

I am sorry , I have already gotten many hints, but someone confused the issue again .

1. It is my understanding that 4K means resolution ONLY. So my Nikon 7100 shoots even jpegs in 14.5 MB which is 6000 x 4000 <- So it is 4k Quality ....right? Photo salesman tried to tell me that 7100 does not provide 4K.

2. I have bought a 4K LG monitor an tested the quality with a laptop 730 and with a lap top 1920 resolution. I have not seen almost any difference. I also had a 4K game laptop - the difference almost zero.
OK, maybe my picture was not 4K ...but the resolution count is!!
Am I wrong?

3. If I do not intent to do editing the movie (only zoom to see the pictures quality) do I really need 4K laptop? Somebody told me that I do not need 4K gaming computer (graphic card) and a normal HDMI cable. ???

Thank you and sorry for asking again Miro

Thank you Roger for the answer about the background. It is nice. I am very glad I am incorrect. I like the photos without post processing = true shots. Miro

Thank you very much. You gave me the info I needed. That bird is great - Definitely enough quality for me
You say focus lock on side - that is what holds the focus at work. I know, you can auto focus with half depressed shutter and then switch to manual focus ..but it is kind of clumsy . Focus lock is better.
Thanks again

I have asked some times ago … the people who use Nik P1000, what experience they have. I am trying to replace Nik 7100 w Tamron 16-300 mm . So , how do you feel about the picture quality -> long zoom and small sensor? I do not intent to produce prints. The 8x11 is my goal...max the double size. Is the RAW really a must . So far I did not post process my shots.

Oh, one more, does it have a back focus button - I just could not see it on the pictures.

Thank you. M

I love your work on backgrounds. I assume all are Post Photo Processed. What software did you use ?

Imagecreator - I do not understand the reason of this post. Are you complaining OR just bragging how picture perfect opportunity you got? .......Just kidding , I love your shot . I live in Florida , but I spent 5 years in Canada . I miss the snow ...not the shovel. Miro

therwol, Thanks for the article and some explanation which brought one more question....and I am done.

If 1.4 HDMI supports / limits the color spectrum to 8 bit, do I really need more? I guess TVs are 8 bit machines. But I will NOT care about this. My ONLY concern is that I may limit 4K monitor when watching Photos. - in practical way . I will be watching, not tweaking and requiring 100% Gamut like profi photographers.

If I have to have 2.0 , so bee it. If I do not need it -good. I just do not want to spend $ on monitor and not being able to utilize it .

I hope this time I asked right.....

Thanks

I would like to thank to all of you who tried to educate me.
However nobody answered my $$ question:
Will I get a 4K resolution on 4K monitor from the computer having HDMI 1.4 output?" (do I have to have HDMI 2.0 ?

I have read that it is good for photos & videos 30 fps , but not for films & videos 60 fps. ????
I understand the graphical card is important ...but sellers say HDMI ...no further spec . I do not need a special hi speed gaming laptop . Only 4K output to external monitor .

I also think the color is dependent more on Monitor quality than the card. ( I do not need the scientific % gamut details...just the practical shot) I will use it for wieving , not a serious work.

Thank you
