You get what you pay for, these lenses are not-for-prime-time. As you grow into photography they will become residents in your junk collection.

You will LOVE this lens. The d7100 has such a high density sensor, that any flaws in the lens will jump out at you. I use it on a d800e and d7100, and the results are everything I could hope for.

If you don't re-save it and you will always have the original. You can look at it as many times as you want without losing anything.

Welcome! You can use your lenses on the D7100. If any are AF the 7100 can focus with them, if not, you can still use them until you figure out what kind of glass suits your shooting style. Might be a game changer if you have a lot invested now.

Thanks for the link. I took a quick look at it, seems that it's for people who shoot jpg. I don't, but my sons have 7100s and do. I think most of the jpg features are the same. It might give them things to think about.

I have the 24, 50, and 105. I gave away my 35, and 85. Once you start using AF zooms your lenses might end up in a padded case, like mine, and never see daylight. After seeing your post I took shots with them on my 7100 and compared them with my zooms. Zooms (24-70, 70-200) won every time, but I had to really blow the shots up to see the difference. I might try them on my 800e just to see how the corners look, but they will go back in their case.

Wow! Can we get any more nasty? I posted a reply, as have others, that using a detachable tripod leg would be a solution. I've changed my mind. One slip on a wet rock, and you've destroyed a monopod and a tripod at the same time. Monopods are great in a crowd or when you are walking around, but not something to lean on.

I have a Benro travel angel, one of the legs can be unscrewed and used as a monopod. Also the ball head mounts to the leg which lets me use ARCA plates. If you already have a good tripod, it might not make sense.

This is a great lens, but unless you want to be compatible with a full frame body, the $$$ are a problem. The d7100 will expose (pun intended) any flaws in a cheap lens. Any good photo shop will let you take a lens on a "test drive". Do it. See what you get and decide if it is worth the money based on how you will use it.

D7100 is a great camera. Unlike the early "kit" lenses, the newer ones have much better build quality, so don't be afraid of them. Nikon dealers have bundled kits that can get you going. Also, welcome to UHH, and I'll see you at a HOG rally.

I've been a Nikon user since 1976 and there has never been a big spread, one way or the other, between Nikon and Canon. Go on a shoot with your friend and take photos of exactly the same thing, with camera settings as close a possible. I you should see almost no difference in POP. Then try changing things around and see what happens. Sooner of later you will discover what setting seems to make the Nikon image POP more than yours. PS, don't give up, Rome wasn't built in a day.

Thanks, MT. I just wanted to be sure I was reading you right. I hope you can convince them to offer an ARCA option. Looking forward to your reports.

I use, and recommend the Wimberley foot. Will it also not work with this head?

Great link! I have a 3040 in perfect condition, but bad things can happen. Will keep for future ref.
