This little female posed for me on the same perch a few days in a row.

I think it depends on the lens. On my 70-200, hand holding, I turn it off when my shutter speed is at least 1/200. I turn it off handholding a 24-70 and 105G.

I'm curious Dave, I've never heard this before. Are you saying that once you reach your 1/focal length shutter speed that IS doesn't provide noticable stabilization? Not questioning, just asking as I have never really done any tests on my lenses for this.

So lucky to be able to photograph these animals. Love the way the horn frames the eye in the 3rd photo. Where in Yellowstone? We plan to go in the spring.

You don't often have an opportunity to get this close, so I was particularly lucky this day. The Bighorns are all in the northern part of the park, and these were near the Yellowstone on my way to the Lamar. Sheep are often seen in this particular area, but the rams usually move to higher ground as the weather warms.

Very nice! Were you in the Lamar Valley?

I actually found these guys just across the Yellowstone on my way to the Lamar.

Were you behind the Elk Refuge in Jackson? They are usually there on the road.

This year they found that the road salt was on the cars and would come up and lick the salt off the cars.

When about ten of them were working on the car in front of us, she said" WOW! A Wyoming car wash.

No these guys were in the north end of YNP around the Yellowstone River towards Roosevelt Jct.

These are beautiful. How close were you able to get? Really like them all, #3 is my favorite.

I was about 50-60 yards. Thanks for looking and commenting.

Great work! #2 looks like he was talking to you.

They were pretty happy chewing their cud and basking in the 40degree weather.

Great shots. Plan on visiting there this fall.

Fall is a great time to visit, smaller crowds, great colors, and good wildlife viewing. Have fun.
