carry on my man.. guess you don't have any use for samples of a lens.. how bout go back under. are you capable of comprehending.??? with out a set of directions on paper?

The OP asked about a 50-150 Sigma lens and you posted "get it. love mine.." and posted an out of focus shot taken with a 150-500 Sigma. A completely different lens and seemingly unsuited for his purpose. Another poster also went on about a completely different lens.
Even down under we know the difference.

The OP asked for user opinions. Do they all have to be as long and as negative as your post?

The OP asked about 50-150 f2.8 Sigma and a couple of posters decided to rubbish on about 150-500 Sigma lenses. Even you seem to struggle here.

It might just be an American thing though.

Hmm ... you might want to review your post.

Why is it that when someone asks for information and advise, people post a whole heap of unrelated and unhelpful rubbish.

Has not hurt them gain 7% share of the personal computer market! And 13% of the smartphone market! Which makes them the industry leader!!!

Or not.

I will go for "or not". They are a long way behind HP, Lenevo, Dell, Acer and ASUS. And their smartphones are falling behind some of the Google based phones.

But getting back to the Nikon move, I think this will only be for low end consumer products. However if I update my D800e and find my Sigma 150-500 and my Angénieux and Mamiya lenses no longer work, I will be less than impressed.

Clearly you need the 200mm f/4D macro to go with the D800E!

No! All you need is a Bavarian milking wench in a dirndl to carry it for you.
Great choice of camera. Enjoy it.

Obviously, WD will vary, depending on what FoV the photographer wants to capture, especially when shooting a head & shoulder only portrait, or a torso portrait.

But that is not what you said is it? You gave the poster the impression that working distance for a portrait was the same regardless of sensor size.

Working Distance remains the same for any lens, despite the camera sensor size.

However sensor size determines image area size therefor the working distance does not remain the same.

Any experience or suggestions with small handheld underwater cameras. I do a lot of shots on water...kayaking...or shallow depths.

Another hands up for the GoPro. They are absolutely made for what you want to do. They are a bit expensive but once you have one you will start looking for ways to exploit its capabilities, and your own.
I have the Black Edition 3 Plus but there are less expensive ones. Mine has a 12Mpix sensor and it shots HD video at up to 4K. However I shoot video at 1080p.

Does anyone have this lens and how do you like it? I believe it is an AI lens. Has 5 screws on mount and has the silver ring with the metal clip near mount.
A friend ask if I would like to try it out. Just want to be sure that it will mount okay on my Nikon 5100 or D80 camera's.
If it will help, the S/N is:3109136
Thanks in advance for you help!

It is a stunning lens. It dates from early 1975. If it has the Ai kit, which it seems to it will mount and work perfectly.

Ok...you on a pc or Mac? And what pp program you use?

I was using DigiCamControl on an Asus eeepc Netbook with a d200 at the time. I now use ControlMyNikon with a D800e. I do not do much PP but when I do I use Photoshop and PTGui Pro.

I have tried just about all tethering programs as I do quite a lot of sequence photography with many variables in exposure etc.

I have played with this software a bit and it has potential. It is probably about as good as you are going to get for the D3100. Unfortunately it lacks live view which will never be implemented on the D3100.

Does anyone know with any certainty if everything in VR and nonVR lens is exactly the same? Let's say Nikkor 70-300 for example.

Is the glass quality identical?

Are they built exactly the same with the only exception being the VR?

Is the $300 or so price difference strictly for the VR aspect alone? Or is there a little more to it than that?

I suppose this could go for any brand or type for that matter.

Thanks

As you are comparing virtually the same lenses you will find the quality the same. It is up to you to put a value on the VR capability. I think in the case of larger zooms, it is probably worth it.

Throw the camera in the bin and get yourself a bottle of Jack Daniels. After that, get a GoPro and go skydiving or bungee jumping with it.

Well from my travels in the US, I would not agree with you here. Some Americans speak very funny indeed. As for that archaic French that some Canadians speak, even the French don't understand it.

And you prolly reckon we Aussies speak funny.

And on a completely unrelated topic, I set my Sigma 150-500 on setting '1'.

Ewwwww... Not good news. Mine hasn't been A'd and so I will stop using it altogether.... I understand Nikon doesn't convert them any more and parts are all but impossible to find. Guess I'll just put it in mothballs.. Thanks for the education and warning. Didn't seem to harm my D5200 as it works great.

A non Ai lens will work perfectly fine on a D5200. The Nikkor 105 f2.5 is a very fine lens indeed. I suggest using it rather than mothballing it. It was considered the finest portrait lens made by Nikon at one time.
