Your story reminded me of 2 situations. 1 It was years ago I was in London staying at the Dorchester Hotel There was a park across the street maybe Hyde Park?? It was as I remember it a cool overcast day and observed the strangest sight in the park. Many individual lying on fold up lounges with overcoats on?? As I watched a beam of sunlight filtered through, Immediately all the individual threw open their overcoats, they were wearing bathing attire just to catch a few ray's of sunlight.
2. I work in the Tour Business here in San Diego. It was our winter. 60 degrees daytime. I had picked up a group of Native adults and children from the Aleutian Islands 500 miles from the Mainland. We went to the Pala Indian Reservation close by. There was a stream running through the Reservation. As the kids settled in the saw the stream and began to splash and frolic in it Our Indians thought they were crazy. I found out that this was soooo warm for them I believe they said the High temperature where they live in the summer was 50 degrees.

I have a 7100. There is a setting for Fluorescent lighting. First go to menu. Next you will see the 1st icon a little camera scroll through the 1st page and you will come to white balance click on it. Now you have a series of options including fluorescent. You will find several additional settings 5 Pick one. For me this is one of the trickiest light shooting situations.

Good Luck.

I looked through the other Posts and they pretty much cover all you need to know. My suggestion would be to go with the kit lens's that come with the camera. In most cases I have seen they will allow you to shoot most of what a beginning photographer will shoot. Then as you narrow your interest you may want to look into a specific lens for that type of photography such as Macro, etc. The other is used lens. Many of the camera shops have a used department and you can sometimes get a really good deal especially If they have a sale. I have been successful in buying from individuals that are unloading gear. FYI a Nikon 70mm to 300mm for a little over $100.00.

Good Shooting. The Bear

I did the down load and saw the color in the center of the Image. WOW!!! This is so good I wonder what #1 would be. My neighbor and his girls drove to the center of Oregon from California, just to get the few moments of the eclipse.

Hi, back again. You may want to move up in the Nikon #'s. You may find that you will out grow the one you mention. Back to cost there are several companies that have slightly used where an original cost might have been $5,000 or more now $2,000 or much less. The starter kits give you the camera and normally 2 lens that give you all the focal options you will normally need. I am a Nikon user. Usually the advice on this site is you need to see which feel best in your hand the buttons are similar. Just located differently One advantage of Nikon, nearly ALL the lens will fit even some wonderful older ones at a fraction of the cost. You might want to take a look at the 7100. I started as you did. You can't make a mistake. Photography is a Life Long learning
experience and the camera is only a tool. I also do Macro. That is a world in it's self. If you do not have a macro lens yet, you need to do your home work on lens length. If you are going to say do bugs bees, etc you need a longer lens such as what I have a 105mm that lets the insects do their thing undisturbed, etc There is just an additional Macro site on Hedge Hog. Ck it out.

Sorry pushed the wrong button. Welcome, you will get ALL the info you need. My only suggestion is to ask specific questions. If you have not purchased a camera some great suggestions on this site. I have been aware of some individual's ( where cost) was not important that bought as much as $8,000 for camera & lenses, and other accessories and Did not even know how to turn their new purchase on. Photography is a life time of learning. In this digital age you will be able to do with your camera what the Great Photographer's of the past spent days or even longer in their dark rooms to perfect a photo which now can be done in camera. Good shooting. The Bear

Small World. I also live in La Mesa. I go to all the places you mention. Quite often Early in the morning, 7:30 or so. I start at the Desert Garden in Balboa Park work my way to the roses and then the main part of the Park. I also like to shoot Macro. Something maybe you have not done is the Hawk watch later in the year up at Ramona. I also spend some time in the Mission Trails Preserve.
Love to have coffee and meet you??? I don't know how contact exactly works on this site?? Congratulation s on your new lens.
