Just gorgeous
I was in Iceland last year and we were only treated to a brief glimpse one evening of the northern lights

Thank you plessner and I appreciate your kind comment. I remember you going to Iceland and some of the pictures you posted were stunning - just sorry you didn't get to witness the lights, another time perhaps.

Bob, that first photo is mind blowing. Did you doctor it up in post production or was that pretty much straight out of the camera? Thanks for posting these. The second one almost looks like Devils Postpile in the Eastern Sierras if you have ever been there.

Cheers Brent - first of all I'm pleased you like them. Haha, no, I didn't "doctor it up," great expression and of course I know what you mean. I shoot in raw as I'm sure you do and then just imported into Lightroom. The only thing I did in Photoshop was to apply a high pass filter.

I've never been to Devils Postpile though it sounds as though I should.

Your image of the Northern Lights is just beautiful. When we were in Iceland, we saw absolutely NO Northern Lights - bummer. I'm pretty sure we were on that same lava beach, and actually went into the cave there.
Thanks for posting and bringing back memories of a very special country.

Cheers Mike and many thanks for the kind comments. I guess we were just lucky - we were only there 4 nights, the first two were "no shows" and then we struck lucky. Thanks again.

The northern lights are very well done. I also love the columnar basalt on your beach shot which reminds me of Devil's Postpile in California.

Thanks very much AuntieM, always appreciate your thoughts and pleased you like them.

I just saw a one hour special on CNN News about Iceland on Easter Sunday evening. It focused on the culture and scenery which were beautiful just as your still photos are.

I hope you enjoyed that feature on Iceland as much as I enjoyed being there. It was my first time but not my last - I'll definitely be going back. Your kind comments are much appreciated, many thanks.

Beautiful captures of an intriguing place. With all the wonderful photos I've seen of Iceland, its a wonder its not crawling with tourists.

Many thanks lsimpkins. I can assure you, Iceland is most definitely crawling with tourists. More tourists than inhabitants.

Awesome shots. The aurora is incredible and the black of the lava beach is also quite interesting.
