Not much makes me any more upset than to see a flag flying in complete tatters for no good reason. That is what I saw flying over this Wal-Mart store. I started by calling the store and got a succession of some rather rude people who couldn't have cared less about their flag. I demanded it be changed on the spot, was basically laughed at. It took me over an hour and finally got in touch with Wal-Mart headquarters in Bentonville Arkansas. Luckly the person there believed me when I told them that I was prepared to stay there for however long it took and would let the whole world know about this disrespectful display. An hour and forty five minutes later the flag was changed.

GOOD FOR YOU!!! If I was there, I would have been standing right next to you...
My father (dec'd) was a Navy man and instilled in me the "respect for our American flag." It really hurts to see when people are disrespectful of "Our America" like this. I don't think flag etiquette is even known by the American people any more. Sad.
Sharing mine...honored with 1st place at 2010 County Fair and Honorable Mention at the 2010 Nebraska State Fair. (I'm glad someone noticed~) 'Nuff said.
"My America"
First: You are obviously shooting through a windshield which has UV properties. Some windshields may give a blue cast, others green. Even eye glasses that change color in daylight will not darken due to the UV. This may be overcome if you shoot in 'landscape' mode.
Second: You may be able to adjust the white balance on your computer but it will take some work.
Third: The sky is blown out. Since there is no color there, you will not be able to retrieve any color to the sky. Only serious post processing with dropping in another image to the sky area will work.
"Photoshop Elements 10 for DUMMIES"
CocoRoger, I have a D3100 also. (Previously had a Nikon FE 35mm, and a Nikon P90, and recently upgraded my equipment.) Here are a few ideas (some may be reiterated from previous posts):
1) Download the CD (user manual) that came with your camera onto your computer. It is an Adobe file that you can save to your computer. There is a lot more information than the hard copy manual that came with the camera. When I need to look-up something specific, I can 'search' the file and it will take me to that particular section.
2) Purchase Nikon D3100 for Dummies. It will fill-in the gaps where the CD does not explain things. It will take you step-by-step through each area of your camera... explaining why and how specific features are used and give you examples of the before and after images.
3) Take your camera in hand and practice one area at a time. If you have to, take 10, 20, 30 images of one subject using the different settings and SEE what is happening. For example: Set your ISO at maybe 200, then start increasing or decreasing your aperature settings...then try increasing or decreasing the shutter speed...pay attention to what is happening with your images. The best way to learn is by example. You can actually do this while sitting at your computer and taking photos of the things around you (trust me on this...I've done it many, many times).
4) Check into local extenion office, community colleges, etc., to see if there are any beginning camera classes. They are usually free or offered for minimal fee ($10 or $20 dollars). You will learn the 'basics' of photography and can ask tons of questions of the pro teaching the class.
As said in the previous posts, "we've all been there" at one point in time...some may have just forgotten that. <Laf'n>
I hope this helps. Until then...post some images under the Photo Analysis link on this website. Be sure to post the type of camera you are using and the settings, and be specific with your question (ie., 'why' did this happen, 'what' can I do to correct this, etc.). You will get a LOT of help. Some may 'bite' harder than others, but don't take it personally....they don't usually draw too much blood.
Live and learn!
Happy trails~

I've always liked the idea of making my own cards because I can tailor them to the individual. The problem is that some people think I am being cheap. I can never make a card for my wife. I have to spend that $5.00.

Took some pictures today ....all with my iphone....the trees were so pretty...heavy laden with snow and encased in tiny ice crystals.
Beautiful images. By now we've usually had a bunch of snow but not this year...everything is still brown. Dang!
I must say, you have one heck of an iphone to get the photos this clear.
Question: I have a friend who asked me to edit a photo take with an iphone but can't seem to get the image clear when I put it on Photoshop. Did you have to do anything to these to change the pixels, etc? Or does your iphone really take a picture that is that clear?

You guys got me pegged... I'm definately a bully, but a smart one. I was quite comfortable shooting with my long lens while perched on an 8 foot ladder. Those tigers were too fat to climb.
Geeeeze John...you've got more b*#%s than I do (or some others here for that matter)! Oh wait...I don't have any b*#%s!!! Ok...you can do it again. (I would be on the other side of the fence.) Good series...tells it's own story without explanation. Kudos~
A number of years ago I purchased the Humorous Greeting Cards program. You can make your own cards, banners, envelopes, labels, etc., etc., etc., on this program. Works great! It cost a few bucks...but over the years I've saved bunches of $$$. On a rare occasion I will buy a card at the store, but the price of greeting cards now days is unbelievable!!! Come on...$5 for a CARD?

'layers" figured out. I have bought a dvd on the subject but it was not well done so it wasn't much help. I need some help with the whole program. Any suggestions?
Check Amazon or Ebay for
Photoshop Elements 9 for Dummies (Don't take it personally.)
I recently purchsed PSE 10 (previously had PSE 4) and bought
Photoshop Elements 10 for Dummies at the same time. VERY helpful and simple step-by-step information in this series of books.

Yes, they are individual, this was discovered by William A Bentley, of Vermont where there is a snowflake museum in his honor.
He was the first person who ever studied and photographed snowflakes. Read more about him and snowflakes here: http://snowflakebentley.com/
This is an excellent link laskalass. Thanks for posting this. Did you happen to notice that EVERY snowflake is a hexagon? (One of God's mysteries.)
