Great shots. I love racing, and I'm lucky enough to live 1 hour away from Lime Rock, in Connecticut. I follow the Weather Tech series, GTLM cars. What track were you at. I've found that drivers are always willing to pose and talk to you.

I fully agree. New users are asking a question, and expect polite answer. They aren't familiar with with the site. The ONLY stupid question is the oneyou don't ask.

I was a US Navy Photographer and I took this photo during launch operations while cruising off the coast of North Vietnam in 1967, during the mining of the harbor of Hai Phong and bombing the capital city of Hanoi.

The excitement, the smells, the sounds, the adventure, the danger involved in being part of the flight deck operations is beyond description.

How much more adventure can a young man have than to sit with your legs dangling out of a helicopter while taking photographs of your ship?

I was over there (Yankee Station) '65 and'66. USS Kearsarge, CVS33. Same class ship. I was an ET, maintained shipboard radar.

To all of the Veterans who visit UHH I give a very big THANK YOU for giving us the ability to do what we do.

I am including a photo of our flag that I took on my last truck trip. It may not be the best photo in the world but it is being flown on a daily basis by one of our local farmers.

No thanks.
This auto-land system I’d depend on if I suddenly couldn’t fly the airplane, I would have little choice. But until then, just like the disastrous auto-drive incidents with Tesla, airplanes are meant to be flown.
Cars are meant to be driven.
This is technological arrogance in my opinion.
Sure the technology is there, it’s also there in commercial aircraft as we speak, but only about 10% of pilots use it, and NEVER in poor weather. There’s a reason for that.
Thanks for posting.

Well said. I want to drive my car, not some computer.

I love the second shot. Hard turn to port, exhaust flame, and heat distortion of the air. IMHO, the Blue Angels are in a class by themselves.

This thought arose after reading a post on a user checking the LCD screen in bright light. Someone mentioned Chimping and I am just curious how many of you Chimp or not Chimp. Is there some sort of unwritten stigma attached to chimping that would flag you as a deplorable and not worthy of being recognized as a serious photographer or is it a useless endeavor that is just a waste of time ? Personally I like to Chimp and look at my capture; I make adjustments and move on. I fully understand the concept of " Getting it right the first time " and fully endorse that as it makes you a better photographer. Just curious as to WHY or WHY NOT you personally choose either approach. Maybe we can get a few humorous pages out of this.... Bob

I look at "chimping" as another tool at my disposal, and I use it. I'm an amateur, and find it very useful.

Great shots. That first on was done by someone who has been the New York City. It's the #2 train. The older subway cars on that line looked just like that.

I have seen repeated references to firmware and ran down an explanation of the term but it is not clear when any action affecting or involving the firmware is needed. Would appreciate comments on that aspect.

Be aware that most likely the firmware update will reset the camera settings to the new factory default. Save all your custom settings (eg. display focus point in playback). Nikon ( and I'll bet other manufacturers) allow you to save to the memory card, then reload the settings. Check your owners manual. An entry level DSLR's may not have the feature, (my D3100 no, my D7200 yes) but 'ya never know.

Hey there fellow UHHers!
I am shooting a Nikon D3400 DX right now. It is fine, but I feel like there may be something more to be done now with another DX upgrade to help me be a better photographer. I understand some of them have better sensors, more control over some features.

Right now I am mainly taking photos of events at my church and mostly following the progress of houses being rebuilt from damage c/o Hurricane Harvey in the Dickinson, TX area.

Until I decide if I am going to concentrate on landscape, birds and animals, insects and flowers or whatever, the lenses I have are enough (so I believe): 18-55 mm and 70-300 mm kits lenses, 35 mm DX f/1.8, 50 mm FF f/1.8 and an 18-140 mm DX f/3.5-5.5. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Go for the 7200. I went from a D3100 to a D7200 and I love. 2 card slots on the 7200 is a plus, lots of great features. Keep all your lenses, they are compatible. Keep the 3400 as a backup. I still have my 3100.

yes I have been there many times. Its one of my favorite places to photograph, the only downside is so many people its hard to get a clean shot without some stranger in it. I will post some pics when I get home from feeding the horses. Have you been there? would love to see some pics if you have any.

Yes, a few times. Bit of a drive for me. I live in Rockland County. And needless to say, I've been to the track as well. Was up there June 27-July 1 for the WeatherTech race.
