i use a dslr always..yes i do see most people using their phones now but the true photographers out there will always be getting real cameras..however what i think is happening is the small mom and pop camera stores are slowly disappearing ..with large retailers such as b and h and adorama who offer the best prices around how can a small business owner possibly survive..you can't blame it on just phones taking over ..it is also the high costs of rents and products everywhere..years ago most people used point and shoots ..it didn't stop them from actually hiring photographers to do weddings and other important events..iphones just made it easier to for the general public..

FWIW - use of zoom lenses will sometimes pull in dust from the outside and send it into the sensor cavity of the camera. Zooming the lens in and out are a bellows basically, so not changing a lens will not always prevent dust particles from entering the camera. Some zooms will pull more air in and out of the camera.

I have been shooting with a Nikon D7100 for several years now, change lenses often, and do not get much dust on the sensor. I set the camera to clean off the sensor at power on and power off, always making sure to hold the camera in the proper position so any dust shaken off falls down to the catch area.

I have not needed a "wet cleaning" yet, every now and then I will use a rocket blower to clear the sensor and the blower and lens brush to clear the lenses.

I will also remove spots in post processing easily until it looks like the time is right for a cleaning session with the rocket blower ;)

i also have the d7100 and the d810 ..use them all the time and so far have not had any spots or issues with these .if and when i change the lens i use a blower also as shown by a nikon tech...but unfortunately i have had spots twice now with the d7000s which i hardly used ..so they are packed up for now since i've been spoiled using the newer ones.

i just brought my 2 d7000 cameras in for cleaning for the second time in less than 2 years ..i hardly even use them anymore but decided to have them done at the nikon manufacturer in new york..believe it or not they are now farming out the work and it costs almost double to have it done now..it took almost a month to get them back..anyway getting back to the spots..i tried to clean them also but found it wasn't any better ...i say it has something to do with the inner mechanism..there is no reason for me to get dust spots so often in my cameras since i put a lens on and keep it there ..not changing them from camera to camera..when i questioned the person at the counter that took in the cameras they said that the d7000s didn't have that issue ..but the last time i brought it in i was told that it was and that they were the only ones with the right chemicals to clean it..honestly i don't know who to believe anymore..

An occasional novelty tool? Tell that to LR users. While I tried to get hard numbers for market share, I could not but did run across a lot of anecdotes which suggest convincingly that LR dominates the market. This is not to say that those Mac programs might be better for you but overall, photographers opt for Adobe. No, I am not a paid Adobe shill but I do respect what they have accomplished.

LR users do not cut corners. Just looking at posts here, people report that they do at least of 90% of their editing in LR before turning to PS. I will not rehash the features of the programs but I would say that the market place has spoken loudly in favor of LR. You might want to listen.

i totally understand what you're saying..in fact lots of my friends seem to love it.so i downloaded it and found that i honestly did not seem to like the program..it is just my taste maybe or how i like to edit..doesn't mean that it isn't a good program ..just not the right fit for me..

i was not particularly thrilled with lightroom ..for me it is just a novelty tool to use occasionally to cut corners to get an effect..mostly i like to control my own editing and use Aperture and Affinity from the mac programs..

i liked the second photo..the perspective of taking a photo of a photo was very nicely done..the first one is too dark without much detail showing on the rust..plus the square format does nothing to make the photo interesting...

really lovely shot..can you brighten it up a bit and lighten the shadows in the background..it would be a nice photo to frame and put up on the wall..

i originally had elements 8 and decided to go to elements 12 ..what a big mistake..the entire format was so different and i found it a bit awkward to use....eventually i will remove that program when elements is upgraded to even more than 14 .in the meantime i am using Affinity which is a mac program but way more advanced than elements and it costs only 50 bucks...

i shoot only RAW since finding that the editing curve gives you so much more advantage to saving many otherwise "ruined" photos..i use a mac and still have the old Aperture program which i absolutely love and use almost exclusively..however now use Affinity often and occasionally Elements..if you're using Windows I'm sure there are programs that will convert Raw files to jpegs..once you start finding that Raw has more editing features you probably won't be able to go back to jpegs..you definitely can edit jpegs but not as much of a curve..

i have 2 nikon d7000s and though everyone says that there is no problem with oil spots i found that twice i had to bring in those cameras for professional cleaning because there were "oil spots" that no matter what i couldn't seem to clean them myself..oh and beware..Nikon now farms out their work to other authorized dealers for cleaning of cropped frame cameras..what used to take them 3 or 4 days to take care of now seems to take weeks ..and i dropped mine off right to nikon itself...
