The main reason that I went to Farmington Bay last week was to check on the heron nesting at the Eccles Wildlife Education Center. Our local power company, Rocky Mountain Power, has installed nine long poles with platforms to allow the GBH a place to nest safe from land based predators. As you can see in #1, the pricy high-level spots have already been taken.

Mating and hatching are well under way as seen in #3.

Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks for this informative post, Mike. This is a very interesting management step and one that could be implemented to good effect on the Pacific flyway refuges. Beautiful photos!

Our local resident pair of Red-tailed Hawks usually perches in this snag the Bolsa Chica Wildlife Preserve, but since they are currently nesting, only one was there Friday morning. Snapped from around 250-300 feet away using a Nikon D500 and Nikkor 200-500 zoom. I have to laugh every time I look at this with the Red-tailed Hawk craning its neck to look down at the House Finch perched below. It's as if the hawk is thinking, "What are you doing there? Don't you know I'm a big, fierce predator?" while the finch is thinking, "Hey, I'm small and fast. If he moves any closer I'll just fly away. Meh!"

Here is one captured by my wife, Wendy, using her Nikon Z50 and Nikkor Z 16-50mm lens during Autumn 2022. It was recently converted to B&W in PhotoLab 7.

A very effective conversion. Great DOF, the detail and tonal range in the background are perfect support for the strongly rendered subject. An example where sharp everywhere really works. Beautiful!

An eagles supermarket?

Thanks, raymondh. The waterfowl migration is, indeed, a movable supermarket! I appreciate your comment.

Thanks, Joe, I think of her more as a disappointed shopper, although she is certainly capable of "busting" any of that lot behind her.

Pot luck is good!

We always take a few "nothing shots" and examine them later and often get some surprises.

Thanks Dave, going back through our older work with new intentions and editing skills/goals is the best argument for saving files. And yes, we do often see an image in a new way.

It has been both educational and fun to watch your skill and technique develop around these new tools. Thank you for all the posts, particularly the work in progress shots that demonstrate the evolution of your painting techniques. Tablets don't create drafting and painting skills, but they certainly facilitate them in the right hands. I appreciate your talent.
