Angela, I love # 1 with bottles. I missed seeing that when I was there.

I for one prefer video tutorials. See if your library has a subscription to Lynda.com. Lots of great stuff from very beginner to very advanced. For a modest price creativelive.com has excellent tutorials. On the day they air it's free to watch all day long.

I have both Nik and all of the Topaz filters. Lately I find I rarely use Adjust for basic tweaking. I prefer what Nik has to offer.I do like to use Denoise and Clarity. I like to play with several of the Topaz special effects. Texture and Impressions are awesome. I also use Simplify a lot. They do have 30 day free trials so why not check them out.

Terje I see so many wonderful ideas here I think you need to schedule more time or an additional visit. 😄 I haven't read every single post but Central Park is a must. Off the beaten path is Gantry Plaza Park for spectacular views of the city. There is a ferry between manahattan and the park which is on the East River in Long Island City. Google it. I also highly recommend Brooklyn Bridge Park.

In New Jersey you can visit Liberty State Park which offers a unique memorial to 9/11 and lovely views of Manhattan.

Wherever you wind up going you will be sure to encounter interesting and colorful people who should be encorporated to enhance you photographic experience .

Dfrost I am in the same predicament and time schedule. And I am also going to Alaska in July. I own a D7100 and love it and have no problem with using it for car trips but it's cumbersome for airline travel and my 3 main lens I like to bring along. So I tried a friend's a6000 for a few days and really liked it. But I thought I needed a more solid camera and actually bought the XT1 after playing with it at Photo Plus expo in October. I returned it a week later. I decided I did not like the operating system and 16 mp sensor. I do like to magnify and crop often enough that I was concerned about the quality of the final prints.

So I am also playing the waiting game and if there is nothing new from Sony by June I will buy the a6000. And then you can be sure some new will be released a week later. LOL

Those are beautiful pictures. I have seen a lot of nice pictures with this kit lens, but when a better lens is purchased, the kit lens sits on the shelf. That is what I am trying to avoid. I have enough camera "stuff" that sits in the closet unused.

Grandma, I am also waiting for the a6000 upgrade. Hoping it comes out before my next vacation otherwise I'll by the 6000. Then the upgrade will surely be annouinced shortly after.

I have no intention of giving up the Nikon. I will continue to use it locally when I can throw eveything in my car. I just need a lighter load for air travel and all day tours.

I recently borrowed a friend's a6000 and used the 16-50 and very much like the results. I am a D7100 ownwer.

I got the same lens used for a little more about 2 years ago. You got a great deal Greenguy and you won't be disappointed.

Also try creativelive.com

They have many types of tutorials which are free to watch on line during the day they are presented. You can also purchase them for later reference.

The programs tend to run all day and start at noon eastern time and 9 pacific . I have attended and purchased a few for photoshop. When I can I sit and watch on line and take notes.

Check out their schedule to see if they anything you need coming up soon.

And yes, another good alternative is a local college course.
