Thanks Craig, I am making a note of these settings and will certainly have a go. I'll find out from the web when are the best times from here in Spain. You have enthused me now in another section of photography and there are so many.

Feel free to PM me and I can give you any Info you may want.
9:00 PM is a really good time to start with Mars and Saturn.
They are right together in the South West. And midnight for the Moon.
Good Shooting Craig

I can't answer for Walt but I don't have a telescope but I sometimes try the sky with my 150-500mm Sigma so the Milky way would be out of my scope but I still love to see yours. Thanks for your interest and offer of help.

That Lens is really good for faster shots like the moon and the Planets where your shutter speed is 1/15 or faster like the moon at 1/200sec ISO 200.
Try Saturn or Mars at 1/15sec and play with the ISO to get the shots you like. Saturn will show the rings and 1 or 2 Moons.
Use a faster lens like a 18-55mm set to 18mm f/3.5 ISO 6400 20seconds for the Milky Way. I know I'm Pushy when it comes to Astronomy.
Give it a try, it's actually easy.

No, not yet, but I want to learn how. I have a Nikon D610 and a 400mm lens. Just not sure if that is long enough.

That is a fantastic Camera & Lens for shooting the Planets, Moon and Andromeda Galaxy, Orion Nebula all kinds of good stuff. I wish I had that Lens, I shoot the D600 and the Nikon 28-300mm but it doesn't have a high f/stop like yours. f/2.8 I presume?

[quote=AlicanteBrenda]This second photo is just beautiful. Do you do these shots in raw or jpeg? I am learning to do raw but can't yet compete with my jpegs.

I shoot Raw Neutral . It shows less dynamic to begin with but has alot more detail in it to customize the processing look I want.
Not what the Camera wants. Good luck.
Try the Milky Way it's real easy. If you want to know what I do I'll be glad to give you Info.

Very nice, Craig, thanks for posting these and I'll look forward to seeing more.

Hoping I get a few minutes of seeing before the fog roles in tonight.
I'm in the Central Calif Coast so we get fog 27 of 30 nights here.
Once a month during New Moon the Group goes up to the mountains for Great conditions.

Keep 'em coming. It is very nice to see photos of other objects in the sky besides the moon.

Thank you Brenda, I'll keep them coming. I too am burned out on all the Moon shots. For one they're too easy to set-up. Planetary and Deep Sky are much more challenging. I have seen some pretty good shots with Telephotos Lenses too.

Thanks, Craig for the information on your Telescope. This looks like a really nice telescope. I would love to see more shots you have taken with it.

Here's one of Saturn, 5 moons and 1 star. The only way to get the moons was to wash out Saturn. I had only 5-8min before the fog shut me down last night so i had no time to refine my shooting. I'm waiting for my Filters and Fine Focuser to arrive.
