What do you have planned?
Anything?
Quick glance outside?
Maybe grab a shot?
Set up and indulge your inner photogragher?

Any particular shot you're planning on getting?

I'm hoping head out and enjoy it from above the valley floor.
We'll see how that goes...

Hi GT Tues night Wed morning I am going to the Mt. Figueroa Lookout to photograph the Lunar Eclipse.

The rep at Adorama told me point blank that they zeroed all counters on refurbs, not just when they replaced shutters...I am beginning to think he was giving me a line of crap. This would be akin to zeroing an odometer in a used car, because I am sure that the shutter count is not meant just to indicate the use of the shutter, but other components as well...

He said it was a D600- with a count of 2 you can bet it was a new shutter.

They do not alter the shutter count from what I've learned.
Shutter count is like milage on a car. It gives you an idea of how much all the electronics and
physical devices, buttons, dials, pop-up flash, doors etc. have been used. Life expectancy on sensors range from 150,000 to 200,000.
This is stuff I've learned here on UHH.

A little over exposed for my taste but still nice.
Practicing for next weeks eclipse?

Good call Albuqshutterbug and yes looking forward to next week. I'll be going to the mountains.
Here are both that were worth looking at from last night. Out of focus: There was a lot of heat waves in the shoot from the shopping center lights and black parking lot, coming from directly below the Moon. I find that is a 'constant' in all my shots in my backyard.

I am considering a refurbished Nikon D7100. However, I am concerned that I may get one with a high shutter count.

I contacted both Adorama and B&H to ask this question. Neither would say that the shutter was replaced. Adorama said that the count was zeroed, B&H said that it was not. B&H assured me that the camera was in "mint, like new" condition.( however, they would not be pinned down on the age of the shutter). Both seemed evasive, which could be attributed to possibly being junior agents who did not want to say anything wrong. Both said that the cameras were "NIKON, USA refurbished", notwithstanding the discrepancies in their descriptions.

I am left with my original reservation that I may receive an "elderly" sensor, with say 100,000 actuations, that they deem still serviceable. Obviously, this is a concern, especially that buying this camera for just a few hundred less than retail, might end me up with a camera that looks new, but is used up in the part that really matters. I only bring this up because I have had GREAT luck when buying refurbs in the past. Some manufacturers, notably Apple (who I seldom have a kind word for) replace consumable parts such as the case and battery, and warranty them the same as new ones.

Any advice that I just buy a new one, or "that's what you get when you buy refurbished", or similar responses are not helpful and are not appreciated. If you have any positive viewpoint to add to this topic, I would be glad to hear it...Thanks in advance.
I am considering a refurbished Nikon D7100. Howeve... (show quote)

I ALWAYS ask for the shutter count and if they will not or can not give it to me I get concerned. And weigh my options.
It is my understanding you can not zero out the actual shutter count on any Nikon? Only the shoot count.
I myself am not a fan of buying someone else's broken items.

After going through all the responses, especially the informative ones from Sharpshooter Re: the Cannon :), I am now considering what you purchased. The leader of our small camera club in my community, who's input I also respect also suggests the D5300 with one good lens that will cover most all my needs. This will fit the budget I have set. He shoots with a D7100 & D800 with multiple lenses. The jury is still out. This has been as difficult as buying a new car for me. I appreciate all the suggestions this forum has given me.

Ron I think you're making a good call with the D5300. It's what my brother got and he is ecstatic about it.

I have a Canon Pixma Pro 100 printer and a D5100 camera.
should I use Adobe RSB or standard sRGB for maximum or compatible color gamut processing. Since Adobe has the larger space and I use that, will the printer use that also?

I too would appreciate a short cut to this answer. I just pulled my Canon Pixma Pro 100 printer out of the box a few minutes ago.

I was thinking the same thing about changing the lens often. I do like the FZ200 for that reason. Also will miss the articulating screen. The D5300 has that. So many decisions.

The D7100 is a much bigger Camera. 10.5 oz heavier. After 5 min of carrying them around you'd know the difference.
The D5300 has the Articulated LCD. Believe me you will miss it alot.
The 18-300mm I don't much about, weighs 4 times as much as the 18-55mm. Transmission, Chr. aberration & Distortion seem to be a problem? But the 18-55mm & 55-300 are decent Lenses. I used the 18-55mm & 28-300mm on my D5300.
The latter which I hardly ever took it off. It Crops to a 42-450mm on the APS-C sensors. If you are going to spend a $1000.00 for 1 Lens this is the one to go for.
