Canon register distance shorter than Nikon. No such conversion could focus infinity.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Canon and Nikon use a different sensor focal plane distance to the lens and Nikon won't fully work on a Canon?

Hey Craig .. it looks like you know your way around sky shots ... your avatar ... Maybe you can tell me why my eclipse shot doesn't look like drcjc's shot. :-)

Your exposure was set to the brighter half of the moon and his exposure was set to the darker half.
I had the same problem not being able to get the whole moon, in that phase of the eclipse, to be in a pleasent view.
He could try a Graduated Filter in Lightroom to tone down the bright half of his photograph. Any comments from others?
I just tried it on one of my shots and the top half is just to blown out, no detail to work with.

I do not see how you can make a comparison with the shots being on different days with a different perspective (you do not say if the settings were the same). I have both the D300S and the D800 and love them both. Both are great cameras. If you want to compare, put the camera on a tripod on the same day with the same conditions and have both cameras with the same settings. Also, do not make any edits in LR, show them straight out of the camera.

And Saturn was too low to play with. It was blinking like a police car light bar.
I guess I need to try and wait for Jupiter to get clear of the moon.

Double clicked, Sorry
Skies are clearing. I'll try to get some shots with my Sigma 600MM tonight.

Come on down--three nights in a row the skies of south Florida have been clear as a bell. It will change this weekend. But you guys are out of my league---my longest glass is a 400mm f2.8 to which I can add a 1.4 or a 1.7 TC.

But now I want to see Saturn rings or at least a good nebulae.

Larry

Larry that is a good set of Lenses for those subjects. Right now Andromeda Galaxy and Orion Nebula are in your sights. You can see Saturn on the very low horizon but I look forward to shooting it next spring. Jupiter is up late with the Orion Nebula for some winter work. And you can find all kinds of neat stuff in the Milky Way. Keep posting you do good work.

Moon doesn't clear the mountain here until 45 minutes after rising.
Moon rise was at 11 so too late for me to stay up. But it was clear. Sigh.

Larry,
Albuqshutterbug and I are having a contest to see who can have more that 3 clear nights in a single month to use our new Telescopes!!!

The camera was a Nikon D800 with 24-70mm 2.8 lens set at 24mm. I used ISO 2000, f2.8 and a shutter of 20 seconds. I bracketed several shots starting at 30 seconds and worked my way down.
Hope you like the shot.
I'm trying to learn this type of shooting.
Larry[/quote]

Larry OMG, I only wish my early shots of the Milky Way came out 1/2 as good.
Great composition, lighting on your foreground and subtle exposure of the main subject, Milky Way.
And you didn't kill it with a bunch of Post Processing, PP.
Welcome to the "Astronomical Photography Forum".
