There are some interesting contrasts, visually and conceptually, in this scene for me, but I wonder if it is a photo that strikes chords in anyone else. Feel free to download and show your critiques.

Hi Bob
I used the Rule of Thirds. Hope you don't mind I did this besides crop it.
Contrast up
Shadows up
Highlights down
Saturation up
I did not tweak the colors at all.

That's funny because I don't post process and the sky is white because the sun is setting...look outside.

I just looked outside.
The sky in my part of the world is not white, it is blue
but when I overexpose a shot it is white. I can't seem to figure that out can you help me?

my photos are never overexposed.

"Fall Foilage"" Didn't see any Foil in the Photos but sadly overexposed skies in some, overexposed Foliage in the others. The rest of your posts are full of Bad Post Processing work. Your work is very amateurish just like mine.

Well, with your photoshop you could put people in the first 2 photos and maybe clean up the tears in the last one.

The man is serious, don't disrespect him with this childish nonsense. We've all seen your overexposed stuff.

From the Photo Gallery Rules (http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-426-1.html):
"- Please do not edit and re-upload other people's pictures without their explicit permission. In other words, you may not open someone's topic, download an image, edit it (that includes adjusting settings, cropping, adding/removing visual elements, etc.), re-post it, and say "here is a version of your photo that I like better" unless they specifically ask for it.

- If, on the other hand, you want others to re-edit your pictures and upload the results, then please explicitly state so in the post."

I would rather see the opposite: an assumption that uploading and editing is okay unless the poster explicitly says not to. I wonder why anyone would not want someone to download and work on a photo to make explicit what they are suggesting.

""without their explicit permission"" is the key phrase. Ask an you will receive permission, I hope. There is also the Photo Analysis List.

I strongly suggest that you obtain at least an X-Rite ColorMunki Smile Color Calibration device: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/894645-REG/X_Rite_cmunsml_ColorMonki_Smile_Color_Calibration.html . There are more expensive devices available, but this one fits my need quite adequately.

That's a really good idea. I'll look into that ASAP.
Thank you

Converting raw to JPG will save storage space, but lose pixel count; converting from raw to TIFF preserves pixel count, but requires more storage space.

I NEVER incorporate cropping as part of my editing process. My camera does capture in standard 2x3 ratio (equivalent to 4x6 & 8x10), so I have separate folders for cropped image proportions. My new Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer has photo paper sizes of 8.5x11 & 13x19, which are different proportions than my old darkroom paper sizes of 8x10 & 16x20. I select a cropped image to match the photo paper size on which I am printing.

""My new Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer"" That is also the Printer I just bought and I'm in the process of setting it up. If there are any tips you might want to give me I would be very greatfull.... I am not worried about space. I delete my junk and keep the good files.

I use FastStone Image Viewer to edit my raw files (NEF) to either JPG or TIFF image files.

Hi Nikonian,
Which is best for printing 4x6 up to 8x10, JPEG or TIFF for just personal stuff.
Thank you,

[quote=paul_m] trading up from d5200, with 2 kit lenses. wanted to get the 7100 body with the new sigma 16-300 macro zoom lens.
but as dirty harry once said.......... a man's gotta know his limitations.............
It sounds like you either have the D5200 or are thinking to get one.
If you have it stay put. The difference from the D7100, at our age, is very minimal.
Only more buttons, weight and no flip screen on D7100.
The sensor and processing on the D5300 is better than both of them. Again small difference.
You are not going to need the sophistication and weight of the D7100 or the Full Frames.
This is just my opinion having been through it myself. A lot of the time I wish I still had my D5300 and the Kit Lenses back.

Looks like the beginning of the end of the eclipse on your blood shot.

Nice shots and which beach for your sunrise?
My bad, not a beach?
That's pretty nice as well.

Yes my blood shot is after the total eclipse. I thought I'd do different shots than everyone else.
The sunset is fog over Gaviota Beach near Santa Barbara, from a 4200 ft Mt. I shot it during my set-up.
And here is the sunrise from the same Mt top.

PS: That shot came out with really muted colors.
