Are you asking just out of curiosity or for another reason?

Just curiosity really. I did some pretty extensive testing a while back and found that I could approximate just about every filter effect in post. Still carry a polarizer with me "just in case" but I find even that I can approximate with Nik software "plugged-in" to my Capture NX2 program. Just wondering what others do.

In the days of Fujichrome, much if not most of the room in my camera bag was devoted to filters for landscape shooting. I had a Cokin P-series holder on each of my lenses and I always carried several different "flavors" of Bob Singh's Graduated NDs, a couple full NDs in different densities, a "fog effects" filter, a didymium-glass filter, and 2 circular polarizers (yes, I'm a klutz who once dropped my polarizer on a trip and it shattered ... lesson learned). My question is: do you digital shooters still carry/use these filters now that virtually all these effects can be "simulated" in post with todays various computer programs?

Been there. Your shot captured it well.

OK. So I should have read a bit farther down the list. Yes, I use Capture NX2. Have for years and I love it. Downloaded NX-D but found it just enough changed that I decided I'm too lazy to climb the learning curve when I am satisfied with NX2.

Just wondering. Does anyone else who shoots with a Nikon use the View NX2 program that comes with the camera in tandem with Nikon Capture? Even though I have Photoshop and Lightroom, I find that these 2 programs which work together do just about everything I want/need for my editing. Just wondering.

Depends on what I'm shooting, really. For most landscapes I use "Landscape" or a setting I augmented to give me results like I got with Fujichrome Provia. While shooting in Europe, I used "Neutral" and got results similar to old Agfachrome. A good test: in spring shoot some different Azalia bushes in bloom and see which setting "does what" to the different shades.

Quick answer: If the "Keystoning effect" bothers you, then fix it. Many here have told you how to "do it in post". As an "old" photographer, I still have and use a Perspective Control Lens that I bought years ago. Something else that may work for you (it does for me) is to use a lens wide enough to capture all of the vertical subject you want, hold the camera level, and crop out the "unwanted" foreground later.

So much of our photographic experience is how we feel when we are shooting. The better/more enthusiastic I feel, generally, the better images I get. My most recent buy was a Nikon Df, because it looks and feels so much like the old FM/FE series cameras that I cut my teeth on. Thomas Wolfe said :You can't go home again. But when I am shooting with my Df it feels like the 1980s and I just love it.

Easily one of the best Milky Way shots I've seen. Good job.

My first camera was a Nikon FM that I bought with 3 Nikon Series E lenses in 1980. Felt like I had "arrived" when I bought my Nikon F4S some years later.

Just wondering if you can recommend some nice parks or other locations where my grandson and granddaughter can run around and be safe while my daughter points her Nikon at them. Any favourite places of yours to suggest?
