Ok, this is a test of the macro adjustment plate I just received. I didn't prep the subject which is a small windup train engine on its plastic track.
6 photo stack in photoshop using the auto align and auto merge layers function.

Looks good.
Did you stack different focus adjustments?

Good shot of Jupiter! For Andromeda, you'll do much better with either your 600mm or no more than 1000mm.

Thank you DL, I'll take your advice.
My 1000mm lens is f/11 but the 600mm is f/8. Any thoughts?

Hand held and the only processing was cropping and 1 click of contrast.

Yes KISS, keep it simple silly. I always seem to over PP my shots.

PP in Lightroom, Topaz Details3 and Clarity.[/quote]
Both shot with Nikon D600 and Meade 8" 2000mm f/10 as Prime Focus.
#1 Andromeda cleaned up in Topaz Detail3 to show the Dust Lanes, the dark areas.
My tracking was slightly off so the stars are not as sharp as I would like.
#2 Jupiter, this is the first shot of Jupiter I've been able to show the Red & White bands.
Again nowhere as sharp as I would like it to be. I'm learning. PP in Lightroom & Topaz Detail3

Probably cheaper to buy the whole set :)

If you plan on using all 13 yes much less cost. For the work I do I only use 4 and maybe 5 so cheaper for me to buy individuals.

Do any of the Topaz products compliment Lightroom or do things Lightroom can't? I have been reading here some use it and others in addition to Lightroom. Haven't looked at it till now. Is that a good price or did they just jack it up and then discount?

A for instance, in Lightroom Clarity you have 3 sliders to work with. In Topaz Clarity you have 7.
And this carries across the board with Topaz products . They give you Much More Control over your PP product.
I love them. I am trying the whole Topaz package on the 30 day trial and will purchase the ones I use most.

I just bought the Nikon D7100. I am wondering if I made the right decision on this camera. For my PI business, I will be taking close-ups, long distances, night time photos and videos.

I also will need the pictures and videos to be time and date stamped. I have heard that this can be difficult to do when transferring the photos or video from the camera to the computer, I have a Mac. I understand it is on the camera but once transferred the date and time are lost. Any help with this?

Is there a "special" lens for videotaping and a different lens to use for photos? What about lenses for day versus night use?

I am also looking to buy a SLR camera for my son. He is planning to take a photography course in college so I would like to get him a nice camera as well.

I understand that you can NOT interchange lenses from Nikon to Canon, if this is so, then should we both have Nikons?

I welcome any and all advice.

Thank you in advance!

Your business is only going to be as good as the equipment you have.
Seriously, a DX camera and lens are not going to be up to the task. (Give it to your son)
You need an FX camera and a good long f/2.8 lens.
You and your son plan on exchanging lenses so stick with the Nikon Brand.
Gene recommends the Nikon D35 Camera, if he says it good for your application I believe it.
I may suggest the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. There are also some really good 3rd Party Lenses too, Sigma, Tamron and Tokina.
Look at the 150-600 lenses by Tamron and Sigma.

I tried stacking using Photoshop align and merge.
This is what I got, rotated for SCT correction and slight Gaussian filter added to reduce noise.

Beautiful job of getting the core of the Nebula.

Thanks for the heads up on the sticky tape residue. But this is just the answer I was looking for so I'll improvise something instead of the tape.
