I took a typical Focus Chart and did a series of shots at 45* from top to bottom focusing on each horizontal line.
12 shots at 6mm increments included in the Stack using the Zerene Stacker.
I did PP in Topaz Detail3 to sharpen the Details, bring out some Exposure & Contrast and zeroed out the saturation to eliminate the Chromatic Aberrations of the lens.
Canon EOS T2i w/ Canon Macro EF 100mm f/2.8-32
f/8
ISO 200
1/60 sec.

I found an adapter that looks like I will be able to use with my old Minolta lenses, especially the macro and ring flash.
Tom, I am pretty sure if you use an adapter for one brand to another everything becomes manual, no auto anything.

Added Moon Shot... processed with 3 software programs... original file was a "JPG" file and NOT a RAW file...

I really like this one Bruce, nice and smooth & easy to look at.
I am only hours away from ordering my Tamron 150-600mm!!!

OK. I am going out on a limb here. But has anyone suggested the SX50?

I think this is the closest to consensus I have seen on a thread here.

IS NO ONE LISTING TO THE ORIGINAL POST!~!
What camera would you recommend that has a SLR type body and the longest zoom for $300 to $400? It's for someone that needs a camera for taking all types of pictures without changing lenses
He's in the range of a Nikon D3100 or a Canon T2i with a long DX Telephoto Lens.

Looks good, interesting subject and shot angle. Your step size needs to be smaller as you have focal bands. Look closely and you can see them, OoF bands in between focused bands. Keep up the good work.
Yes I do see them at 200% very clearly.

Great start on stacking Jim. I can really appreciate your new outfit. I'm still fumbling around with tripod adjustment crank. I like your camera settings too.

Nice work on both coins. Lighting can be really tough on objects that reflect like coins or metals (chips too!). One low cost solution that has helped me is these ebay light boxes (sometimes called tents), they come in many different sizes. The small ones only cost about $15. Placing a couple light sources (flash and/or continuous) on the sides tends to produce a somewhat even diffused light across the subject. I have used two boxes, one inside the other for even better diffusion. Below is an example of a small light box/tent sitting inside a larger one.
Nice work on both coins. Lighting can be really to... (show quote)
I love it, I have white storage container that is almost identical to the tent you have pictured. Thank you for the ideas.

Look at the Nikon D3100 and a Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Nikkor Lens. US $389.00

Appreciate the clarification. Thank you.

Yes BUT the Nikon lens on a Canon camera is totally manual, NO AUTO functions.

Thank you DL, I'll take your advice.
My 1000mm lens is f/11 but the 600mm is f/8. Any thoughts?

I'd probably start with the 600. Less tracking problems, and a bit faster f-ratio. I'd also increase the ISO for shorter exposures. You'll get a good field of view. When you become satisfied with what you get that way, then you can start changing whichever settings you like, and see what happens. I'll send one of my versions...
I like your second Orion shot, but it does seem a little clipped. Your sky should never be totally black, or you may lose some of the faint outer nebulosity. Otherwise a pretty good rendition of a difficult object!
Thank you DL, I'll take your advice. br My 1000mm... (show quote)

Thank you DL some good points to start working with. Next week when the weather clears I can start shooting again.
A shot of Andromeda with the 1000mm. And Orion with the black & shadow raised, not much difference.
