I also use several lists for different categories, and some lists transform in two, one for short-term wishes and one for long-term ones.
I also have a list called "Next buy" to group items when I'm ready/near to purchase.

But I don't live in the USA (and no Amazon or similar here, and prices waaaaay more expensive), so I'm limited on the amounts and purchases I can do, I have to maximize my chances :)

Hola Juan,

I moved to the Dominican Republic 3 years ago from the US. While the shipping charges do add up, I use Mailboxes Etc. For Amazon, EBay, and similar online stores. There are other similar services out there if MBE is not available in your area.

We went to South Africa with Go Touchdown Travel in 2019. Great trip. We spent three days on a "real" safari at Humala Lodge in the Songimvelo Game Preserve. No lions there, but everything from antelope to zebras. We did a couple of "canned" days at an Elephant park and a Lion park and a day at Pilanesberg I'm not sure what they do there, but animals were plentiful including hippos, lions (we saw a pair mating), elephants and rhinos.

Hi jcryan,
I just downloaded the latest version of DeepSkyStacker for free with no problems (Windows 10, 64 bit).

Thanks it must have been another piece of software that I was looking at. However I run Ubuntu and DSS runs on Windows. I'll give it a try at some point with PlayOnLinux to see if it runs.

I've learned more about Siril and it can do all of the stretching and other post processing so time in GIMP or PS or other alternative will be much less. Worth checking out.

Thanks Ballard, that’s a great rule. Seems to align with my experience. I just saw a post where someone used DeepSkyStacker. Does anyone have experience with this software?

I have just started watching a series of YouTube videos by Nico Carver on his Nebula Photos channel. I tried to download DeepSkyStacker, but it is no longer freeware.

He often processes with multiple tools including Siril which is full open source and therefore free. Apparently it has been upgraded recently and has capabilities that can take you further into post processing before you move into GIMP or other PP software.

I have been practicing with Siril & GIMP using his images for M42 with good result. I recommend both Nico's channel and Siril for preparing, stacking, and initial processing of astro images.

I also recommend LibreOffice. There are some limitations and MS Office advanced concepts that are not fully implemented in LibreOffice, but most have workarounds. If you are a standard user that is not pushing the envelope beyond basic document and spreadsheet usage LibreOffice will do everything you need.

I have experienced zoom creep on the AF-P DX version of the 70-300 zoom. Biggest problem is when the moon is near the zenith. I solved it with a heavy duty rubber band doubled on the inner zoom barrel and by planning my shot when the moon is nearer the horizon.

I upgraded my 12 year old Dell Inspiron Laptop to 16 gig ram and a 1TB SSD last week. I run Ubuntu and it is almost instant on. One trick I found is to detach external hard drives before booting.

What operating system are you using? If some flavor of Linux you may need to unzip the EXE file using one of the many available tools like 7-Zip.

Go to Amazon and search for Action Camera. There are 4k cameras with waterproof housings for $42. I bought a Yi Lite a couple of years ago but rarely use it. It works quite well and much less expensive than the Go Pro brand.

The shot is underexposed and the ISO is high. Brightening a dark shot is never going to be ideal and it's an even worse idea with a high ISO. On top of that, sharpening and noise don't go well together.

If you aren't using a 2 second delay, camera shake from you pressing the shutter release is still a possibility. I don't shoot wildlife or pets but I wonder if 1/1250 is necessary. I got the impression that 1/500 was enough even for dogs running about (I'm open to correction).

There is an old rule of thumb stating that:

Hand Held Shutter Speed <= 1/(FF equivalent Focal Length)

You will need a faster shutter for action on picture 1 at 600mm min shutter speed would be 1/600 and to freeze action 1/1250 makes sense. I'm not sure how much resting the camera on a beanbag changes the rule for action shots.

Cheers!

Have you looked at gimp tutorials that might address your issue? If nothing out there meets your needs I would recommend reaching out to Mike Davies of Davies Media Design to see if he can do a video to answer your specific question. You can review his tutorials at: daviesmediadesign.com/tutorials/

I should have finished reading the remainder of the OP’s post (slaps head) 😡!

You have a choice of tethering with a USB cable from your camera to your tablet or laptop (5M max distance for passive USB cables) or linking via WiFi. Wireless is slower (but not typically bothersome) and has the advantage of no cords to trip over (which can can bring the camera and/or computer to the floor). Most major manufacturers (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji to name a few) have an application for image transfer and camera control which can be used either way, and LR has tethering functionality. An alternative for Canon, Nikon, Sony and Fuji if your camera doesn’t have WiFi or you don’t want to use the camera’s battery or need additional range is CamRanger which does both image transfer and complete camera control. There used to be several manufacturers of SD cards with WiFI capability (such as EyeFi), but the range and speed was limited. I’ve tried them and found them to be marginal (and I believe EyeFi is defunct)

If you transfer JPEGs, the speed is very adequate for near immediate view of the shot at the full jpeg resolution, and even raw transfer is not that slow. Give it a try - there is no cost except for the cable (if you go HW tethered) unless you go with The CamRanger solution (which by the way is excellent)

I agree with TriX that what you are describing is essentially tethering. I am starting to explore tethering to an android phone or tablet. There are a number of apps out there that will do this easily. I had to try a few until I found one that worked well with my equipment.

Camera Connect & Control
qDslrDashboard

I am using Camera Connect & Control currently. Everything works well but I would like more options on bracketing.

qDslrDashboard has everything I want, but it is glitchy and freezes. I'm hoping a future update will fix it.

There are others out there, some are camera brand specific or rely on WiFi (not available on my D3400) I use the USB cable connection. There are free versions but it's worth the $10 for the full or pro version.

I don't have a tilting view screen on my Nikon D3400. I was able to find a number of andoid apps that allow me to connect a phone or tablet to my camera. It makes a huge difference when working with a tripod and Live View mode.
